WEATHERFORD, TX - Roughly two weeks ago, Prep Baseball Report Texas was in attendance as multiple junior college teams met at Weatherford College to play some fall baseball. Dozens of professional scouts were in attendance, and we ran several pieces of content from what we saw over the two day period (Day 1, Day 2). Also, be sure to follow Prep Baseball Report's JUCOWire every Friday for news and notes from across PBR's coverage area. Today and tomorrow we bring you video of top sophomore arms.
Top Performers+ Juan Mateo, RHP, Panola JC, Soph.
Mateo appears larger than his listed 5-foot-8, 180-pound frame. The right-hander has an electric arm stroke from a high-¾ slot. He entered the game with his fastball sitting 93-95 mph with arm side run. His slider has good depth and late, sharp 11/5 break at 81-84 mph.
+ Mitchell Walters, RHP, Weatherford JC, Soph
Walters has a 6-foot-2, 218-pound, strong frame. The right-hander works from a high, over-the-top slot with a quick arm stroke. His fastball sat mostly 92 mph in the first inning, tickling 93 mph once, dropping into the 89-91 mph range in his second inning of work. Hammer 12/6 curveball at 76 mph. He threw a couple of changeups in his first inning at 82-85 mph. In his second inning of work his velocity went to 89-91 mph, mixing in a slider with short, late break at 81-82 mph.
