WEATHERFORD, TX - Four Junior College Teams competed on Thursday, here are some quick highlights from the day. Look for more in-depth reports and video in the next few days. Make sure to follow us on Twitter and Instagram for up to the minutes updates on top performers.
GAME 1
+ Dane Kapande, RHP, Hill JC, Soph.
Kapande is a 5-foot-10, 180-pound right-hander that works from a high-¾ slot with an up-tempo delivery with a short, quick arm stroke with medium effort. Kapande pounded the strike zone to start the day, with his fastball sitting mostly in the 86-89 mph range. The pitch has arm side tail when located below the belt and he mowed through the Weatherford lineup for 3 innings of work. He throws his slider for a strike with lateral 10/4 shape, working mostly in the 73-75 mph range, flashing one at 76. Threw one changeup at 81 mph.
+ Connor Emmet, OF, Weatherford JC, Fresh.
We saw a good bit of Emmet during his senior year at Colleyville Heritage HS, but the freshman has a bright future in college baseball, considering he is a 6-foot-1, 181-pound, left-handed hitter. In the three-hole, he was 2-for-4 with two sharp singles through the middle of the field with an RBI.
+ Sean Townsend, RHP, Weatherford JC, Soph.
Townsend stands 5-foot-9, 175-pounds, working predominantly out of the stretch from a high slot. The right-hander has a hand dominant arm stroke with a tall-and-fall delivery and average effort. He turns his fastball over from 84-87 mph, touching 89, and dropping only once to 81 and 82 mph. His breaking ball varies in shape from 11/5 to 12/6 at 73-76 mph. Was able to get swings and missed in his 2nd inning of work, where his fastball flashed good life.
