Broad Run
Classification: VHSL 4A / Region C 2022 Record: 13-9
Key Losses: Ethan Walker (Walters State CC), Jackson Myers (Mary Washington)
Broad Run, the 2021 Class 4 State Champs, had a solid 2022 season, narrowly missing a State Tournament trip. They are poised to, as usual, be one of the top teams in the deep Dulles District in 2023. The rotation will be the calling card, with seniors Andrew Market (James Madison) and Jackson Hulcher (Richard Bland) topping the rotation.
Key Returners:
Heritage
Classification: VHSL 4A / Region C 2022 Record: 13-10
Key Losses: Thomas Burgess (Roanoke), Nick Harris (Bridgewater), Peyton Lee (Marymount), Joshua Rivera (UMBC)
The Heritage Pride (Leesburg) were the Dulles District runners-up and won the Dulles District tournament to advance to the Region Tournament before seeing their season come to an end. 2023 will be an interesting year for them as they lost their top 3 arms and a ton of innings to graduation. If the Pride can figure things out on the mound, look for them to be in the mix late in the season courtesy of an offense that will center on seniors Colin Shue (Kenyon College) Landon Taylor and could see increased contributions from interesting youngsters Alec Jones, Owen Brundage, and Aaron Van Tuyle.
Key Returners:
Lightridge
Classification: VHSL 4A / Region C 2022 Record: 6-16
The Bolts have a chance to be a dark horse contender in the Dulles District in the program's third season of existence. Any conversation about them has to start with junior catcher Jimmy Nunnallee (Virginia), who has been the centerpiece of their offense since his freshman year when the school opened. He looks to have gained strength this offseason and is poised for a big year. A big x-factor for the Bolts will be the likely return of sophomore RHP Mason Sproat, who is one of the top pitching prospects in the 2025 class in Northern Virginia, but missed his freshman season due to an injury. Senior Liam Moriarty logged a bunch of innings in 2022 and should be back in that role again. Junior outfielder Donovan Newell and senior catcher Jacob Park (Maryland Eastern Short) have been regulars near the top of the order with Nunnallee and should be again this spring.
Key Returners:
Tuscarora
Classification: VHSL 4A / Region C 2022 Record: 14-8
The 2022 Dulles District Champs fell in the Region 4C tournament to eventual State Runners-up James Wood. The Huskies have plenty coming back this spring and should be one of the top teams again in the Dulles District and challenge for a State Tournament berth. On the mound, senior Cole Keel emerged as an ace for the Huskies last year and will be back again. Offensively, seniors Bauer Burkart (Marshall) and Braydon Kelman (Frederick CC) will anchor the middle of the offense for the Huskies this spring. Who could be the difference maker for the Huskies in 2023? Look no further than a potential breakout season from Virginia Tech commit, Brendan Cowen.
