Updated and Expanded Class of 2017 Rankings

As the 2015 season comes to a close and players enter their offseason programs in preparation for the 2016 High School season, we at Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC have taken some time to update and adjust our rankings for the Class of 2017. We have additions to the rankings as well as some players who had strong summers or falls and jumped up the board. Here is a look at the top of the class and a throughout the week we will spotlight some of the many newcomers to the list that has been expanded to 55 players. No. 1 Hunter Perdue, RHP, Grassfield HS
Virginia commit Hunter Perdue (RHP, Grassfield) remains at the top of the Class of 2017 rankings. The athletic righty’s fastball has been up to 90 and he works in the upper 80s with a quality array of secondary offerings. Perdue fits the mold of what the Hoo’s recruit in righthanded arms perfectly.
No. 2 Tyler Solomon, C, Battlefield HS
Vanderbilt-bound masher Tyler Solomon (C, Battlefield) has moved into the number two spot in the class. The Commodores will be getting a hitter with a projectable frame with legitimate power from both sides of the plate.
No. 3 Mikey Polansky, 3B, Hickory HS
In the third spot is Virginia Tech commit Mikey Polansky (3B, Hickory). Polansky can play either corner position but most importantly brings a legitimate power stroke from the left side. He uses the whole field and has the ability to hit for average as well as power.
No. 4 Anthony Simonelli, RHP, Millbrook HS
Moving up the fourth spot in the rankings is Coastal Carolina commit, Anthony Simonelli (RHP, Millbrook). Simonelli has started to fill out his projectable frame and his velocity has seen an increase throughout the summer and fall, touching 90 in October.
No. 5 Matt Cooper, C, Norfolk Academy
Rounding out the top five is Clemson commit Matt Cooper (C, Norfolk Academy). Cooper is an athletic catcher with sub-7 speed and a big arm which has been up to 89 from the outfield. He is quick getting the ball down to second and is likely to be able to stick behind the plate.
