In expanding the Overall 2022 Rankings to 250 players, it became obvious that this group is stockpiled with talented athletes from coast to coast. The usual suspects—California (28) Florida (23), Georgia (23), and Texas (32)—continue to dominate the prep landscape, but it is not without challenge from other states around the country.

A look at the Top 10:

RANK   NAME STATE SCHOOL CLASS POS COMMITMENT
1 Ryan Clifford NC Leesville Road 2022 OF
2 Dylan Lesko GA Buford 2022 RHP
3 Elijah Green FL TNXL Academy 2022 OF Miami
4 Matthew Porchas CA Santa Margarita Catholic 2022 RHP Texas
5 Termarr Johnson GA Mays 2022 SS
6 Luke Davis CA Cypress 2022 C Southern California
7 Andruw Jones GA Wesleyan 2022 OF Vanderbilt
8 Brandon Barriera FL Westminster Academy 2022 LHP Vanderbilt
9 Sal Stewart FL Westminster Christian 2022 3B Vanderbilt
10 Riley Stanford GA Buford 2022 OF

The Carolinas are well represented throughout, including the top overall player in OF Ryan Clifford (Leesville Road HS, NC). Clifford has established himself as a premier talent with an elite hit tool from the left side and plenty of power projection. Electric LHP Tristan Smith (Boiling Springs HS, SC) might have the highest ceiling with a quick arm and feel for spin, and checks in at No. 12. Joining those two in the top 30 are strong-armed RHPs Carter Boyd (Reagan HS, NC) and Matthew Matthijs (DH Conley HS, NC). Both exhibit the potential to continue as frontline starters at the next level with projectable frames.

Ohio’s 2022 group appears poised to remain prominent on the national scene the next three years. RHP Jacob Miller (Liberty Union HS, OH), No. 27, OF Devin Taylor (Lasalle HS, OH), No. 52, and SS Matt Wolfe (Olentangy Orange HS, OH), No. 86, have showcased impressive tools. Miller, a Louisville recruit, has been up to 92 mph with his fastball, and features a strong repertoire of pitches including a sharp breaking ball. Taylor shined at the Future Games in August where his projectable, athletic frame stood out, and left-handed stroke produced some jaw-dropping power. Wolfe, a Vanderbilt recruit, looks the part defensively, and will have a chance to stick at shortstop at the next level along with feel for the barrel from the right side.

Wisconsin’s emergence as a hotbed for college recruiters and professional scouts has really picked up in recent years. With 11 players in the expanded Overall 2022 list, the Badger State continues to reload. Leading the way is physically-gifted OF Michael Lippe (Whitefish Bay HS, WI), a Louisville recruit, whose combination of strength and speed allows him to excel in all facets of the game. The ball jumps off the 6-foot-1, 190-pound right-handed hitter’s bat, and he runs downhill on the bases and in the outfield while playing hard at all times.

But, alas, the “Big Four” states are well represented in 2022. Georgia boasts six players in the top 15. Buford teammates, RHP/SS Dylan Lesko (No. 2 overall) and OF/RHP Riley Stanford (No. 10) each stood out at the PBR Future Games in August with elite arm strength on the mound, athleticism at the plate, and competitiveness all around. They were joined on the Georgia team at the event by C Jared Jones (Walton HS, GA). Now a Louisiana State recruit, Jones’ majestic shots from the right side are befitting of his large, 6-foot-4, 225-pound frame, and he also shows off loose hips with soft hands and a strong throwing arm (82 mph from the crouch) behind the dish. He checks in at No. 11. Dynamic players in the field and at the plate, IF Termarr Johnson (Mays HS, GA) and OF Druw Jones (Wesleyan HS, GA), a Vanderbilt recruit, are also featured prominently at Nos. 5 and 7 respectively.

In Florida, OF Elijah Greene (TNXL Academy, FL), a Miami recruit, moves into the top spot in the Sunshine State and No. 3 overall. Physically advanced with defined, proportional strength throughout an athletic, 6-foot-2, 205-pound frame, the 6.6 runner may have a chance of sticking in center field at the next level. His raw power from the right side has shown up on the national stage, and he still shows signs of making big jumps in the future.

California’s top 10 duo includes RHP Matthew Porchas (Santa Margarita HS, CA), a Texas recruit, at No. 4, and C Luke Davis (Cypress HS, CA), a Southern California recruit, at No. 6. Porchas continues to climb as a projectable, 6-foot-3, 180-pound right-hander with a low-90s fastball that whips out of a 3/4 slot along with a sharp, swing-and-miss breaking ball. Davis’ presence in box, from both sides of the plate, is imposing, and he does damage while showcasing advanced catch-and-throw and receiving abilities defensively.

In Texas, C Rylan Galvan (Sinton HS, TX), a Texas recruit, takes over the top spot in the state with a plus arm behind the plate and projectable power from the right side. He is followed closely behind by 3B Cade Climie (Seven Lakes HS, TX), a Texas A&M recruit, who covers the plate from the right side with strength to all fields, and a chance to stick on the left side of the diamond. SS Anthony Silva (Clark HS, TX) put on a show at the PBR Future Games, and later committed to Texas Christian. A gifted defender with natural instincts for the position, Silva looks the part of a future shortstop at the next level and beyond, and his athletic, 6-foot-1, 170-pound frame should continue filling out in the future.
