Updated And Expanded 2021 Rankings
September 19, 2018
After a full summer of competition, and nearly four months since the last update, the class of 2021 Overall Rankings arrives with one hundred more players than the previous installment. The long, action-packed summer allowed for a fertile recruiting ground as the PBR staff, which includes hundreds of scouts across the country, was able to lock in on the up-and-coming prospects.
Showcasing the depth of the class across the country, the top 10 includes players from nine different states with Florida being the sole double-representative. It is important to note that the PBR Overall Rankings only reflect the states that we intimately cover, which now includes talent-rich Georgia.
The top two prospects remain the same as physical bats and potential two-way players, Luke Leto (Portage Central HS, MI), now a Louisiana State recruit, and 3B Blaze Jordan (Desoto Central HS, MS), a Mississippi State recruit, have continued to shine in the national spotlight. Each has performed exceptionally well against elite competition, and still show signs of getting better in the future.
The athleticism and elite arm strength of RHP Nick Bitsko (Central Bucks East HS, PA) gave him the boost to move up to the third spot in the updated rankings. The physically-advanced, 6-foot-4, 210-pound right-hander is an imposing presence on the mound where he features a powerful fastball that has run up to 94 mph from a high ¾ slot. Featuring a quick arm that is aided by strong drive off the back side, Bitsko’s velocity shows no signs of slowing down.
The state of Georgia boasts 17 players as they enter for the first time into the PBR 2021 Overall Rankings. Elite two-way prospect, SS/RHP Brady House (Winder-Barrow HS, GA), a Tennessee recruit, has all the makings of a future star moving forward. Physically-gifted at 6-foot-3, 200-pounds his actions and arm strength on the infield should give him a chance to stick at shortstop while his powerful stroke at the plate will likely provide him with enough juice to shift to a corner position if needed. Combine those strengths with his impressive work attacking hitters on the mound, and there appears to be nothing that House cannot do.
Rounding out the top five is RHP Irving Carter (Calvary Christian Academy, FL), a Miami recruit, whose polish and repertoire continue to impressive. Now working comfortably at 88-91 with his fastball, and touching 92 mph, Carter dissects hitters working the pitch in and out, and elevating at times. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound right-hander also demonstrates the ability to land multiple secondary pitches including an 11/5 curveball (72-73), a changeup (75-76), and a cutter (85-86).
NOTABLE RISERS:
SS Aaron Downs (Pella HS, IA), now a Louisville recruit, was the MVP at the PBR Future Games, and may have been the summer’s biggest standout. The uber-athletic, 5-foot-11, 190-pounder ran a 6.58 60-yard dash and already produces an exit velocity of 97 mph off the tee while bringing an incredible amount of energy to every aspect of his game.
Not far behind Downs, OF Lonnie White Jr. (Malvern Prep HS, PA) moves into the list for the first times after a breakout summer. The 6.58-runner has graceful strides with a knack for tracking down everything in the outfield while also showcasing a 91 mph arm on throws. His balanced approach and quick hands at the plate allow him to easily drive the ball from gap to gap before showcasing his speed on the base paths.
RHP Simon Lusignan (De Mortagne HS, QUE) first emerged on the national scene, this summer, at the PBR Florida Limited Series in June. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound right-hander has an ideal frame that scouts and recruiters can dream on, and works his fastball at 87-90 with plenty more to come in the future given his live arm.
OF Braylon Bishop (Ashdown HS, AR), an Arkansas recruit, continued to elevate his game all summer. The talented outfielder produces easy pull side power from the left side while exhibiting the ability to cover the entire plate with quick hands.
