Though the top five in the newly updated 2020 Overall Rankings remains unchanged, there was plenty of movement throughout, as the players in the class quickly shift from young, aspiring ball players, into prospects who are merely a couple of months away from their draft year.

C Drew Romo (The Woodlands HS, TX) continues to hold down the top spot given both his defensive capability and power-potential as a switch-hitter. California products, RHP/OF Jared Jones (La Mirada HS, CA) and Pete Crow-Armstrong (Harvard-Westlake HS, CA) come in at Nos. 2 and 3 respectively, representing what is a highly-talented class coming out of the Golden State. Rounding out the top five are two of the top bats in the class in left-handed slugging OF Austin Hendrick (West Allegheny HS, PA) and the right-handed hitting OF Dylan Crews (Lake Mary HS, FL).

Rising up the list as the top left-handed pitchers in the class, Nate Savino (Potomac Falls HS, VA) and Dax Fulton (Mustang HS, OK) join the top 10 at Nos. 6 and 9 respectively. Savino’s low-90s fastball slings out of a tough, 3/4 slot and promises even more velocity in the near future. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound, athletic southpaw combines that velocity with a wipeout slider that flashes signs of being a plus offering. Fulton, a durably built and physically imposing 6-foot-6, 215 pounds has comfortably sat in the low 90s this spring with potentially the top secondary pitch in the class: a hammer curveball with big, multi-tier break at a firm 75-78. The two big-armed left-handers will head into the summer as prominent names to know on the circuit.

Nate Savino (July 2018)

Dax Fulton (March 2019)

The introduction of the Pacific Northwest (Oregon/Washington) to the PBR family brings with it nine new players on the overall list. Leading the way is Oregon RHP Mick Abel (Jesuit HS, OR). Abel, a 6-foot-5, 190-pound right-hander was stellar on the national circuit last summer, and appears to be the top prep prospect to come out of Oregon since Carson Kelly was selected 86th overall by the St. Louis Cardinals out of Westview HS in 2012. The Oregon State recruit is long and lean with an athletic frame that oozes projection. Abel’s loose arm stroke and quick hand speed has allowed him to run his fastball up to 96 mph with low effort that still hints at more to come. He counters the firm fastball with a sharp slider that has flashed potential as a plus pitch in the future. His clean, repeatable delivery makes it easy to envision him continuing as a starter moving forward, and headlining a strong core of right-handers nationally.

Mick Abel (March 2019)

Both RHP Ben Hernandez (De La Salle HS, IL) and OF Zach Veen (Spruce Creek HS, FL) have quickly blossomed into top prospects to know for 2020. Hernandez has effortlessly run his fastball into the mid 90s early this spring, showing command to both sides of the plate before pulling the string on a plus changeup at 84-87 that produces swings and misses. His 6-foot-2, 185 pound frame is athletic and highly-projectable with much more strength to likely come in the future. Veen has risen to become one of the top hitters in the class with a relaxed approach and uphill path through the zone. Long-limbed at 6-foot-4, 190 pounds he flashes some power to the pull side with a gap-to-gap approach, and will likely discover even more as his wiry, wide-shouldered frame continues filling out. His ability to drive the ball and produce against some of the top pitchers in the country should help him continue to shine on the summer circuit.

Ben Hernandez (February 2019)

Zac Veen (March 2019)

Other notable risers in the top 100 include 3B Jordan Walker (Decatur HS, GA), LHP Kyle Harrison (De La Salle HS, CA),  RHP Max Carlson (Burnsville HS, MN),  RHP Carter Baumler (Dowling Catholic HS, IA), RHP Will Sanders (Woodward HS, GA), 1B Michael Brown (Vacaville HS, CA), RHP Ty Floyd (Rockmart HS, GA), and C Kevin Parada (Loyola HS, CA).
