With great pleasure, we introduce to you Prep Baseball Report Oregon and Washington. Our mission in the Pacific Northwest mirrors that of our other state-specific coverage: to provide the most comprehensive in-state scouting information, to promote high school baseball and, ultimately help Oregon and Washington prep athletes achieve their dreams of playing baseball at the next level. Our goal is to be the year-round No. 1 scouting resource for prep baseball in the Northwest.

Although it will take some time to achieve the status of our other 42 states, we are certain we have the right person to thoroughly, accurately and honestly scout Oregon and Washington:

Dan Jurik.

Jurik brings a keen scouting eye and a tireless work ethic to the Northwest with a background as an assistant coach at both the Division 1 and Division 3 levels, as well as experiences scouting for Prep Baseball Report at the high school level as well as summer collegiate coverage, which included the Cape Cod League.

A graduate of St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY, Jurik was the first athlete in school history to ever be drafted. After a stellar four-year career as a right-handed pitcher, the Atlanta Braves selected Jurik in the 25th round of the 2010 MLB Draft. He went on to be named the organization’s Gulf Coast League Pitcher of the Year at the completion of his first professional season. Overall, Jurik amassed 146.2 innings pitched in affiliated ball with a 3.44 ERA between 2010 and 2011. He went on to pitch in independent ball for two additional seasons in the Can-Am League and American Association before turning to coaching in 2013.

After returning to his alma mater for two seasons, Jurik transitioned to Binghamton University in 2015. His duties included working with the pitching staff as well as assisting in recruiting. In 2016 he was a part of the coaching staff that led the Bearcats to  regular season and postseason conference championships. In his last season working with the pitchers at Binghamton, Jurik coached the Conference Pitcher of the Year and his first MLB draft pick.

Jurik returned to St. John Fisher College for the 2017 and 2018 seasons. While with the Cardinals, he assumed the role of recruiting coordinator for the first time. In addition to leading the recruiting efforts for the nationally ranked program, Jurik spent time working with both the pitching staff as well as the offense over his final two years.

At the completion of the 2018 season, Jurik was one of the first scouts to be involved with PBR’s inaugural summer collegiate league coverage. After spending time scouting the New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL), Jurik shifted to the Cape Cod League with David Seifert, PBR’s Director of College Scouting. Once his scouting responsibilities were over, Jurik continued to stay involved with PBR in the Northeast.

Now, Jurik will bring his vast knowledge of both the prep and collegiate game to the great Northwest. He will work tirelessly to bring to you the most comprehensive high school baseball information in both Oregon and Washington with coverage from all corners of the region. But he can’t do it alone. Please email him at [email protected] with college commitments, relevant news, and top players in your area.
