On Sunday, October 8th, we hosted the Fall Unsigned Senior Showcase at Grand Park in Westfield, IN.  Below is a look at the top pitching prospects in attendance and full analysis on all of the arms that attended the event. 

Top 5 Pitching Prospects

Tommy Benson SS / RHP / Chesterton, IN / 2018 Rankings  State Rank:83 POS:11 6-foot-1, 180 pounder ran the fastball up to 90 with some arm side sink.  Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with average feel.  Works down the mound in direction with some rhythm.  Short, quick arm swing.  Currently a thrower with feel for the strike zone, will need to develop off-speed.

Alex Scherer RHP / OF / Cathedral, IN / 2018 Rankings  State Rank:92 POS:40 6-foot-4, 180 pound pitcher sat 83-86 with late run on the fastball.  Unsigned senior showcased a more filled in frame with some late movement on pitches.  Has slightly closed setup and load, lands squared and in line.  Throws from a high 3/4 slot with short arm swing.  Finishes upright, falls off at times.  Slider has 10/4 shape with some late depth.  Missed arm side at times but showed flashes it being an out pitch.  Change-up had some late depth and fade.

Riley Hershberger RHP / 3B / Logansport, IN / 2018 Rankings  State Rank:84 POS:39 6-foot, 195 pound right-hander sat 82-85, touched 86 with the fastball.  Showed variations in timing, maintained rhythm.  Releases from a 3/4 slot with some arm speed.  Late hand separation at times.  Lands squared, finishes upright.  Confidence in delivery.  Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with flashes of depth.  Inconsistent shape.  Change-up fades to arm side at 75-78.  Physical frame and works at a good pace.

Drew Fosler RHP / 1B / Fishers, IN / 2018 Rankings  State Rank:69 POS:32  Long, lanky 6-foot-6, 210 pound right-handed pitcher sat 84-86 with the fastball.  Short arm circle with a quick hand.  High 3/4 slot.  Some rhythm down the mound, lands squared.  Drop and drive delivery.  Works around his front leg.  Fastball has some late life.  Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with some tightness at 71-72.  Could be a plus out pitch for him.  Erratic command, missing arm side at times..  Splitter showed late tumble action at 72-74.  High ceiling.

Cameron Holycross RHP / 3B / Lapel, IN / 2018 6-foot, 185 pound right-handed pitcher has a drop and drive type delivery with firm front leg.  Throws from a high 3/4 slot with a naturally short arm circle.  Above average arm speed with control in the strike zone.  Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with some depth.  Fastball sat 83-84, straight and commanded in the zone.

Jake Andriole, 1B/LHP, Guerin Catholic HS, 2018

Physical 6-foot, 205 left-handed pitcher has a drop and drive type delivery.  Hooks wrist in arm swing.  Good pace down the mound, stays in direction.  Lands closed, works around front leg.  Fastball peaked at 81.  Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with erratic command sitting 65-67.

Parker Bray, LHP, Terre Haute North HS, 2018

6-foot-2, 160 pound left-handed pitcher has a long arm action with rhythm down the mound.  High leg kick, lands squared on stride leg.  Early rotation of hips.  Slight stab on the backside into a high 3/4 slot.  Fastball sat 76-79.  Breaking ball has early, gradual break at 65-67.  Commands the zone with multiple pitches.  Projectable frame.

Nicholas Caplinger, RHP, Monrovia HS, 2018

6-foot-2, 205 pound right-handed pitcher has above average hand speed with rhythm down the mound.  Throws from a high 3/4 slot.  Stays in line, shoulders level.  Lands closed.  Works around front leg.  Breaking ball sat 62-65 with gradual break for strikes.  Fastball sat 79-81, touched 84mph.  

Michael Couet, LHP, Franklin HS, 2018

5-foot-11, 150 pound left-handed pitcher has a long arm action into 3/4 release.  Sat 79-81, touching 82 with fastball showing slight arm side run.  Choppy rhythm with a slight hop into leg lift.  Lands squared, lacks front leg extension.  Breaking ball showed 1/7 shape with gradual break.  Change-up has some arm side fade at 69-71.  Repeats delivery with a quick tempo.

Austin Kresl, OF/RHP, Carroll HS, 2018

6-foot-1, 160 pound right-hander Pitches with a drop and drive delivery, uphill front shoulder.  Fastball topped at 82, sat 79-81.  Curveball has 11/5 shape with gradual/sweeping action at 65-68. Changeup was thrown with near fastball arm speed at 71-72 showing occasional sink. 

Dallas Matlock, LHP, Southport HS, 2018

6-foot-1, 185 pound left-handed pitcher throws from a high 3/4 slot with long arm swing.  Smooth rhythm down the mound.  Stiff lower half.  Fastball sat 73-74, touching 75.  Curveball sat 54-56 with early, gradual break.  Splitter has some tumble at 65-68. 

Logan McClurg, OF/LHP, Westfield HS, 2018

5-foot-10, 160 pound left-handed pitcher has a closed setup with above average use of lower half.  Feel for 3 pitches in the zone.  Throws from a 3/4 slot with average arm speed.  Creates arm side run on fastball, sitting 76-78, touching 79.  Breaking ball has sweepy action, some depth.  Change-up showcased some late arm side run and fade. 

Jaxon Meyer, C/RHP, Harrison HS, 2018

5-foot-11, 235 pounder pitches from a high 3/4 slot with short arm circle.  Rhythm down the mound.  Stays in line, lands squared.  Average hand speed.  Fastball sat 77-78, touching 79.  Breaking ball has 11/5 shape gradual break and is thrown for strikes.

Myles Pearce, RHP, Kokomo HS, 2018

6-foot-2, 202 pound right-handed pitcher has rhythm in leg lift into stride.  Throws from a 3/4 slot with average hand speed.  Low glove side.  Lacks separation at foot strike.  Fastball sat 74-77 with arm side run.  Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with early, gradual break.  Curveball sat 62-64.  Change-up featured some fade with near fastball arm speed.

Jake Petrusky, RHP, Columbus North HS, 2018

5-foot-11, 160 pound right-handed pitcher has a tilt to topple delivery with uphill shoulders.  Repeats his delivery.  High 3/4 slot with above average hand speed.  Lands squared, soft.  Front leg gets extended and finishes athletically.  Fastball sat 79-80 for strikes.  Breaking ball has early, gradual break with downer action between 69-70mph.  Change-up has arm side fade at 72-73.  

Seth Robertson, 1B/RHP, Greenfield Central HS, 2018

6-foot-1, 185 pound pitcher maintains good direction and rhythm down the hill.  Throws from a high 3/4 slot and average arm speed.  Works at a good pace.  Fastball sat 74-76 for strikes.  Breaking ball has early, gradual break at 60-62.  Lacks tightness. 

Breven Sanford, OF, LHP, Northwestern HS, 2018

5-foot-10, 150 pound left-handed pitcher throws from a high 3/4 slot with long, slow arm action.  Has rhythm down the hill. Front leg lacks extension.  Lands squared, finishes upright.  Fastball sat 73-74 for strikes.  Breaking ball sat 65-67 with gradual break.  

Cy Stanley, LHP, Shenandoah HS, 2018

5-foot-11, 160 pound southpaw maintains smooth patterns and command for multiple pitches. Good direction with lower half, lands firm, finishes upright.  Throws downhill.  Long, loose arm action.  Fastball sat 78-79 with some arm side run. Commands breaking ball with sweepy action.  Change-up is thrown with loose wrist and has arm side fade.  

Drew Switzer, RHP, Hamilton Southeastern HS, 2018

6-foot-2, 165 pound right-handed pitcher sat 82-84 for strikes with the fastball.  Throws from a 3/4 slot with some arm speed.  Slightly closed shoulders in load, good rhythm into foot strike.  Lands slightly closed.  Creates some arm side sink on fastball.  Breaking ball features 10/4 shape with gradual break and some late depth at 71-74.  Change-up has fade to his arm side with fastball arm speed.

Lee Timmons, RHP, LaPorte HS, 2018

6-foot-7, 240 pound right-handed pitcher has uphill shoulders with a tilt-to-topple delivery.  Thick lower half.  Fastball sat 78-82 with some late life.  Heavy ball.  Throws from a high 3/4 slot with average hand speed. Lower half needs some refinement.  Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with cut action.  Inconsistent break on the slider.  Big frame and above average movements, should see velocity jump soon.  

EJ White, 3B/RHP, Brebeuf HS, 2018

6-foot-1, 195 pound RHP pitches from a sidearm slot.  Inconsistent release point, creates some arm side run on fastball.  Sat 72-74, touching 75 mph with fastball.  Slider has 10/4 shape with sweepy action.  Splitter features some late tumble action at 65-68.   Works around his front leg, shoulders stay in line with an upright finish.

John Whiting, LHP, Brebeuf HS, 2018

5-foot-8, 155 pound southpaw showcased rhythm down the mound with a 3/4 slot.  Inward turn during load, blocks well with lower half at foot strike.  Short arm swing, gets into consistent release point.  Command to both sides of the plate.  Fastball sat 77-79 with some arm side run.  Change-up has arm side fade at 73-76.  Breaking ball sat 69-72 with 2/8 shape and some depth.  

Noah Woodward, RHP, Linton Stockton HS, 2018

6-foot-1, 180 pound right-handed pitcher has a clean, smooth delivery.  Works at a deliberate pace, strike thrower.  High 3/4 slot with average hand speed.  Lands squared, finishes upright.  Fastball sat 79-83, touching 84 with command to both sides of the plate.  Curveball has 11/5 shape with consistent shape.  Gradual break sitting 68-71.  Change-up was consistently 74-75 with feel to his arm side.
