IL/WI Underclass Games: Statistical Analysis
August 4, 2021
On Tuesday, July 20, the PBR Illinois staff hosted the Underclass Games at Triton College in River Grove. This invite-only event featured some of the top players from Illinois and Wisconsin in the 2024 class and provided our scouting staff with an up-to-date look at each prospect in attendance.
Today, we'll take a look at the statistical side of things from this invite-only event inside our traditional stat story. As the week rolls on, we'll dive deeper into the data we collected, analyzing the numbers provided to us by our partners at TrackMan and Blast Motion.
+ INF/RHP Cooper Kamlay (Franklin, WI) had an all-around impressive performance as a two-way player. The 5-foot-10, 155-pounds right-handed hitter got his day started by running the second best 60 time, clocking a 6.80. Kamlay followed that up with a 92 mph exit velocity during his BP round and later threw 85 mph across the infield. In game, Kamlay reached back for an 84 mph high on the mound.
+ OF Mason Phillips (Oak Park River-Forest, IL) has long been known as one of the state's most gifted athletes, and he proved that during this workout. The 6-foot, 175-pound Phillips ran the fastest 60-yard dash of the day, clocking a 6.77 on our lasers.
+ Two position players showed plenty of raw pop in BP, recording 100 mph max exit velocities according to our TrackMan: 3B/OF Keenan Oldani (South Elgin, IL) and CIF Zachary Pyles (Warren, IL). Left-handed hitting CIF Cash Campbell (Montini Catholic, IL) just missed out on joining that duo by one tick, as he juiced one up at 99 mph.
+ INF/RHP Ryan Kotara (Lincoln-Way Central, IL) was in the top five in all categories as a two-way player. Listed as 6-foot-0, 170-pounds the right-handed hitter was one of four to run a sub-7.00 60, recording a 6.94. During his BP round, Kotara's best ball left his barrel at 93 mph and he topped at 87 mph across the infield, which was the second-hardest throw of the day. He jumped on the mound in game and touched 83 mph with his fastball, too.
+ INF/RHP Luke Teschke (Monticello, IL) emerged as a winner from this event, pacing all the infielders and pitchers in max throwing velocity. The 6-foot, 165-pound Teschke fired a 90 mph strike to first base during his defensive workout and later revved one up at 86 mph on the mound in game.
+ C Seth Impson (Springfield, IL) was impressive behind the plate during the showcase portion and game play. Impson recorded a 91 mph high in BP and led all catcher's in both catcher velocity (75 mph) and average pop times (2.01-2.09).
