Uncommitted Spotlight: RHP Mitchell Heer
March 30, 2020
RHP Mitchell Heer (North Paulding, 2021) was easily one of the most competitive pitchers we saw this spring. We had the opportunity to see Heer throw multiple times this season, from the Georgia Dugout Club Tournament to the LaGrange Toyota Invitational. Heer put together some absolute gems against Tattnall Square, Thomasville, and most impressively, one of the top high school teams in the country, DeSoto Central (MS) and 3B Blaze Jordan. The athletically built 6-foot, 165-pound right-hander will not overpower you with his fastball, although he can reach the upper-80s with it. What he will do is dominate with an advanced changeup. The pitch has late action and consistently induces weak contact and swing and misses. A bulldog on the mound, Heer gets after it and backs down from no opponent. Facing DeSoto Central, he went 5.2 shutout innings, allowing two hits, three walks and striking out five. He did not have his best stuff, but he attacked a stacked lineup with a heavy dose of changeups and competed each and every time.

Scouting Report
2/14/20 - 6-foot, 165 pounds with a lean build that will only add strength and size.. Started on the mound against Tattnall Square and showed a very impressive arsenal of pitches. Works from an up-tempo delivery. High front-side and full arm action that comes from a ¾ slot. Body works in sync. Fastball carried well throughout outing, sitting 84-87, topping out at 88. Still developing a feel for slider at 73-75. Had one of the top secondary pitches on the weekend in changeup. Turns the ball over from the ¾ release, generating significant side-spin. Ball dropped off table with heavy sink and run at 76-78. Showed extreme feel for the pitch. Impressive arm to follow.
