Scouting Report
Background: Parson is a 2021 right-hander, listed at 6-foot-1, 170-pounds, Parson has room to grow and add size and muscle to his frame. We’ve seen Parsons well now for close to 2 years, and he has continued to impress with his pitchability and repertoire of 3 solid pitches he can throw at anytime. The arm action is clean in the back and he gets outfront from ¾ slot. He repeats his delivery, and does a good job getting his backside through and throwing all pitches out of the same slot. The fastball works with arm-side run in the 80-82 range and we’ve seen up to 84 mph. He complements his heater with a curveball in the low 70’s with 11/5 shape, which could eventually become a slider with his current arm slot, and can back that up with a changeup that has fading action that he is not afraid to throw in games.
Outlook: Parson was a leader on his 16u staff this year, and always seemed to go deep into ball games, a credit to him for throwing strikes, attacking hitters and being able to get outs early in the count and keep his pitch count low. As always with young high school arms, the weight room plays a big component and with a big winter in the gym, it is not hard to imagine Parson’s velo to climb into 2020 season and continue to be a guy who pitches and competes with the best of them, polishing and sharpening his stuff. A definite guy to keep a close eye on as an arm that works with no red flags and the foundation to keep developing and improving.
