Uncommitted Spotlight: 2020 SS/UT Coleman Schmidt
October 9, 2019
Coleman Schmidt, '20, is an athletic shortstop, #5 ranked shortstop and #16 overall, with a tapered frame that projects to fill out as he continues to add weight and strength. He uses his arm strength (84) paired with a quick first step to make plays both up the middle and in the six hole with ease. Offensively, he has a compact swing that allows him to consistently make solid contact that shows flashes of sneaky pop that could develop into consistent power as he continues to develop. Schmidt is a solid prospect that looks to use his abilities in the field as well as at the plate to guide Reno back to the state championship.

He displayed tremendous athleticism at shortstop ranging right and left. He showed the actions and arm strength to stay at shortstop, with a feel for touch throws. He demonstrated a good arm, planting and throwing from the six hole. Schmidt has a simple approach at the plate with minimal hand movement and small stride.
