Game Notes - Mike Bearman Tournament Final Day - Part 2
March 10, 2019
Game Notes:
Game 3 – (0) Lassen vs (10) Reno
The Huskies offense continued to be productive, scoring in all but one of the shortened five inning contest, but the story was ’20 Skyler Hales, RHP. Hales a late arrival out for baseball after finishing the basketball season just days before spring baseball begins. The 6’4” right-hander struck out four and walked none in the five-inning contest. He was extremely democratic, throwing 45 pitches with almost 75% strike percentage. He started 10 of the 15 hitters he faced with a strike.
Game 4 - (3) Laguna Creek (CA) vs Reno (15)
In the final game of the Mike Bearman Memorial Tournament, it appeared that Reno might get tested. The Laguna Creek Cardinals, hailing from Elk Grove, CA struck first but Reno would respond immediately and often, leading to an eventual 15-3, five-inning affair, due to a high school run rule. Senior, John Kane started on the mound and had an uncharacteristic rocky start. The veteran, Kane would settle in halt the Cardinals offense. Kane’s pitching might have been uncharacteristic, but his offense epitomized his weekend. Kane would homer for the third straight day and lead an 11-run fourth inning. The offense would be assisted by shortstop, Gunner Gouldsmith who doubled twice, while Coleman Schmidt, August Souza and Kyle Fermoile collected multiple hits as well. Reno made a strong bid this weekend to move up the rankings with 5 decisive wins.
