Trash Pandas Classic Scout Blog: Pitcher Only's

Today, we continue our post-event coverage of the Trash Pandas Classic on Thursday, June 25th at Toyota Field, the home of the Rocket City Trash Pandas. There were a total of nine pitcher only's that pitched during simulated gameplay against hitters. All of these arms looked impressive with some projectability still left for each player. Ray Anderson: LHP/1B, (2023) Lindsay Lane Christian, AL. 6-foot, 150-pound. Fluid on the mound, where he showed quick arm speed, he had a ¾ arm angle with a consistent arm action. Showed easy effort in his delivery. a clean finish. Threw his fastball 76-78 mph with a max of 79 mph; has running action and very consistent control. Threw his 1/7 curveball (68-71) with control around the zone and hard action.
Charles (Will) Gordon: RHP, (2021) Hazel Green, AL. 6-foot-1, 235-pound. Above average on the mound, where he showed above average arm speed, also used a loose arm action with a high ¾ arm angle. Used easy effort in his delivery. Athletic balance point. Displayed a clean finish Sat with his fastball at 73-74 mph with a max of 75 mph; has in the zone control and late action. His 11/5 curveball (63-64) had late action and low in the zone command.
Tyler Holland: RHP, (2021) Hazel Green, AL. 6-foot, 180-pound. Fluid on the mound, had a quick arm action and a ¾ arm angle with good arm speed. Has consistent balance point. a clean finish. Threw his fastball 75-78 mph with a max of 79 mph; has running action and in the zone control. Throws a 11/5 curveball with control low in the zone and late action.
David Locke: RHP/OF, (2021) Westminster Christian, AL. 6-foot, 210-pound. Above average on the mound, where he showed some arm speed, also used a consistent arm action and a high ¾ arm angle. Lands square with a clean finish. Threw his fastball 80-81 mph and topped out at 82 mph; shows late action and glove side control with heavy movement. His sharp curveball (71-72) showed tight action and around the zone control.
Colby Reeves: RHP/1B, (2022) Austin, AL. 6-foot-3, 195-pound. Above average on the mound, had a quick arm action and a high ¾ arm angle with above average arm speed. Lands square with a clean finish. Threw his fastball 73-75 mph with a max of 77 mph; has a in the zone command that shows straight movement. Shows command around the zone and tight action on his 11/5 curveball (61-63).
Hunter Scruggs: RHP/3B, (2022) James Clemens, AL. 6-foot-1, 180-pound. Athletic on the mound, showed good arm speed with a ¾ arm angle and a quick arm action. Lands square with a clean finish. Threw his fastball 79-80 mph; showed in the zone command with heavy movement. Has a 11/5 curveball (68-71) that showed command low in the zone and late action.
Sam Smith: RHP, (2021) Decatur, AL. 6-foot-2, 155-pound. Projectable on the mound, used a ¾ arm angle with a quick arm action while showing good arm speed. Has consistent balance point. Displayed a clean finish Threw his fastball 79-80 mph; had glove side control and running action. Throws a sharp curveball (68-71) that shows in the zone command.
William Turner: LHP/OF, (2022) Hartselle, AL. 5-foot-11, 170-pound. Projectable on the mound, using a quick arm action he showed some arm speed from a high ¾ arm angle. Showed easy effort in his delivery. Produced a fastball that came in at 81-83 mph; has in the zone command and running action. His 1/7 curveball (73-74) shows swing and miss action and low in the zone control. Showed control low in the zone and fading action on his changeup (75-76).
Will Varmette: RHP/1B, (2021) Grissom, AL. 6-foot-1, 175-pound. Raw on the mound, where he showed electric arm speed, also used a ¾ arm angle and a very quick arm action. Sat with his fastball at 86-88 mph and topped out at 90 mph; had running action and decent control. Had control around the zone and hard action on his sharp curveball (71-74). Had arm side control and late action on his changeup
