MELISSA, T.X. - A scout blog filled with a few top prospects and standouts from the organizations of Dallas Tigers, D-Bat Elite, and USA Prime from a Five Tool Tournament.

Polk

Dominick Reid, RHP, Frisco Lone Star, 2022
Reid showed well in his outing featuring a 83-86 fastball and bumping an 87. FB had 2300+ RPM to it. BB was 73. What was most impressive was his feel for a change at 72 to both RHH & LHH. Pitchability righty with a solid frame to add velocity in the coming years.

Jayson Jones, SS, Braswell, 2022
One of the top players in the class, Jones had another good showing for the Tigers. Jones was very patient this week, laying off balls and the mostly OS he was being thrown. When he got a pitch in the zone, the intent was to do damage. There is legit power potential with every swing. And, Jones is starting to show off the speed as well. He’ll run a sneaky 4.35 line time and steal a couple bags while he’s at it. Don’t let the size fool you – he moves well for a guy that can hit the ball with the authority he does.

Trenton Shaw, LHP, Desoto, 2022
We were able to see Shaw twice this week. His first outing was cleaner than the second, but the 6’4” 230 lefty competed well both times. FB was 86-88 in his first outing and touched an 89; 84-86 in his second appearance. The BB was 65-67 and at times has some knee-buckling depth. Shaw has shown the ability to be lights out. Now it comes down to consistency.

Walker Polk, 3B/1B, Coppell, 2022
Walker played 1B and 3B this weekend. The switch-hitting utility bat is an intriguing prospect. He is going to add value to any club with his physicality and ability to play multiple positions.

Cade Sharp, RHP, Rockwall Heath, 2022
The physical and durable Texas Tech commit showed a good 2-pitch mix with an upper 80’s FB and good BB at 75. What impressed most about his outing was the ability to go to the BB when he wanted to.

CIENEGA/BEAVEN

Max Belyeu, OF, Aledo, 2022
Alabama commit. Belyeu stands out physically in the box. He took some good hacks this weekend, but didn’t have much to show for it. If the bat to ball improves, Belyeu could pose as a serious power threat in the middle of the order. The 4.4 runner showed the ability to move well in the OF while tracking down outs.

Adrian Guzman, UT/RHP, Aledo, 2022
Guzman impressed this weekend. The athletic 5’11” utility player showed the ability to play SS, OF, and pitch. Fun to watch in the box with a controlled, aggressive approach. He went big fly in game 1 and continued to show barrel control throughout the week. Very interested to see how his summer plays out with his ability to also throw 84-85 on the mound with a 75 sweeping SL (2500+ RPM).

Tyler Sudderth, RHP, Granbury, 2022
Sudderth shut down a good Dallas Tigers-Polk lineup this weekend. The stocky RHP was 83-84/85 with a 70-72 BB that he could land for strikes. CH was 73. Competed well.

AUTREY

Cameron Pruitt, SS, Wylie, 2023
The recent Stanford commit is a standout with the way he plays. Full of energy, the sparkplug at the top of the lineup sets the tone for the Tigers-Autrey club. Offensively, Pruitt showed good plate discipline throughout the weekend. Simple set-up with a simple stroke. Profiles as a speed-contact guy currently.  On defense, Pruitt showed solid actions at SS with enough arm to stay there.

Noah Bentley, OF/RHP, Celina, 2023
Oklahoma commit. The 6’1” Bentley has an athletic frame that projects to add some strength and power as he matures. The Oklahoma commit plays hard and with an edge. Offensively, you can notice his approach to stay in the middle of the field.

Robert (RJ) Ruais, OF, Celina, 2023
Rice commit. Ruais has a projectable 6’2” 180 frame that is easy to dream on. The LHH absolutely crushed a ball for a triple (Texas wind prevented the HR) during our coverage.

Caden Mitchell, C, Celina, 2023
The physical LHH catcher shows the ability to really throw. 1.95 range between innings. Commands the game well.

Tompkins

Kyle Bade, LHP, Plano, 2023
In terms of pitchability, Bade showed well. FB was only 79-80, but he knows how to pitch. Good, clean delivery.

Bennett Fryman, CF/LHP, Frisco Lone Star, 2023
This 2-way player plays hard and with intent in everything he does. Although the swing can get long at times due to his effort, Fryman showed the ability to find the barrel. On the mound, Fryman was 84-85. It is a quick arm that has the potential to be a weapon if the command can improve. Good competitor.

Pierce Boles, RHP, Argyle, 2023
The recent TCU commit was 81-84 in his outing against Dallas Tigers-Polk. BB was 70-73. The quick-armed righty shows the ability to spin it at times. Command was a little shaky in this outing, with his misses being down in the zone. Induced weak contact with his sinker-type FB when swings were put on him.

Jett Johnston, RHP/3B, Amarillo, 2023
Johnston has a good, physical toolset. At the plate, he gets his swing off with a slightly uphill path with serious intent to do damage. Easy to dream on big power as he matures. On the mound, Johnston was 84-86/88 with a 74 BB. Moxy and competitive nature stand out with Johnston on both sides of the ball.

Tanner Sever, INF, Coppell, 2023
Sever possesses a flat, quick stroke as a LHH for D-Bat Tompkins. He holds the zone well, giving himself a chance for a quality at-bat and consistent barrels. Played 2B this week, but could easily slide to the left side if needed. Solid actions.

Lane Allen, INF/RHP, Denton Guyer, 2023
Allen is a big, physical presence on the diamond. With a quiet and simple approach in the box, Allen was very selective which allowed him to put the barrel to the ball. He has shown the ability to hit for average and power. The hit tool here is one to keep a close eye on. Defensively, he has played both 3B and SS. Even for his size, he moves well enough to cover ground at SS with plenty of arm. Allen also showed the ability to run a FB up to 83 while flashing a 70-72 BB. Potential to be a 2-way prospect with the tools and projection.

Logan Boertje, RHP, Marcus, 2023
The 6’4” 205 right-hander was solid in his relief appearance against Dallas Tigers-Polk. FB was 81-84 with some late life. BB 69. CH 72 to both RHH & LHH with great feel. Would like to project a tick in velo with the size and delivery.

Brydan Hernandez, C, Corsicana, 2023
Hernandez really showed the ability to catch and throw. Clean arm behind the plate with solid fundamentals. Consistently 2.0’s between innings with solid carry. Soft hands; chance to be a really good receiver. Showed the ability to handle the bat as well.

American 2022

Baylor Baumann, RHP, Rockwall Heath, 2022
The slender built RHP for Prime has a good clean arm and delivery with intent. He was 83-86 with a 75 BB that had good spin and shape. Commanded the zone well. Very intriguing arm to follow this summer.

Jake McClain, INF, McKinney North, 2022
Jake is a physical-looking infielder that hits in the middle of the order for Prime. Actions in the infield are solid; probably profiles more as a 3B, but his versatility is valuable. He showed competitive at-bats all weekend consistently showing the ability to have quality at-bats.

Joseph Mun, OF, Flower Mound, 2022
Mun may have had the most simple set-up and approach at the plate during our coverage. He doesn’t try to do too much, and he continues to put good swings on the ball with his pitch selection. The lanky OF could see some more power come his way with added strength as he develops his wiry frame. An intelligent hitter.

Brady Cunningham, RHP, Celina, 2022
The big and physical RHP showed some competitiveness in his outing versus D-Bat Tompkins. 80-82 with the FB with a 67-69 BB. Generates good momentum down the mound.
