Team Missouri Future Games: Game 1 & 2 Notes

From July 27th to July 30th, the Prep Baseball Report staff will host the PBR Future Games at the state-of-the-art LakePoint Sports Complex in Emerson, Georgia.

This one-of-a-kind event will feature the best uncommitted Class of 2024 prospects and select 2025 prospects from our 40-plus state coverage area and Canada. In years past, more than 330 college coaches from all over the country were in attendance.

Team Missouri’s started the week off on a high note, defeating Nevada and Louisiana respectively. Below you’ll find takeaways from the first two days of action, including BP prior to Friday’s game. 

GAME ONE TAKEAWAYS

The four arms we trotted out in Thursday’s victory all threw well, combining to shut down a talented opposition en route to victory. A quick nugget on their performances:

+ Starting on the bump for Team Missouri was RHP Caide White (Republic, 2024), who turned in two strong innings during his outing. The 6-foot, 195-pounder pumped his fastball up to 89 mph, sitting at 86-88 mph with late cutting action. White confidently spun a curveball for strikes at 73-75 mph off an 11/5 plane, flipping it around the zone with feel and confidence.


+ INF/RHP Mason Beno (Parkway West, 2024) captured our ‘Player of the Game’ honors after an impressive performance on both sides of the ball. Beno toed the rubber in the third frame, punching out a pair over a scoreless frame. Beno generated mid-to-upper-80s velocity from a loose, quick arm, pumping his heater up to 88 mph and sitting at 85-87 mph. He spun a 73-74 mph slider to pair off that fastball, ripping it at 2,300+ RPM with sweep from a similar arm slot to his heater. Beno sprayed two singles at the plate from a short, simple left-handed stroke that he controlled the zone with.


+ RHP Kaden Durnin (Camdenton, 2024) has one of the higher ceilings on this Missouri squad, starting with a physical 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame capable of adding plenty of strength over the next few years. Durnin worked with relative ease throughout, topping at 88 mph with his fastball, sitting 85-87 mph. He confidently spun a low-70s breaking ball that peaked at 2,473 RPM, displaying aptitude to spin for his age. Still learning how to control his levers downhill, Durnin is certainly one to follow as we progress into the fall.


+ LHP Carter Cox (Fort Zumwalt South, 2024) secured the shutout with two scoreless frames in relief. The 6-foot, 185-pounder pounded the zone with his low-80s fastball, reaching back for two 85 mph highs, and confidently spun two different breaking balls for strikes in any given count.

Several players popped on offense for Team Missouri as well:

+ 1B Jackson Glueck (Staley, 2024) entered the event as a high-end left-handed bat on Team Missouri’s squad and, thus far, has done nothing but show that. He barreled two balls with authority in this game to the pull-side, looking the part of a true middle-of-the-order bat.


+ OF Kenton Unruh (Staley, 2024) put together a loud all-around performance for Team Missouri at Tuesday’s workout - 6.77 60-yard dash, 95 mph max exit velocity, 88 mph from the outfield. Unruh carried that momentum to Wednesday, effortlessly squaring up two balls to the pull-side during gameplay. A regular performer at the plate, Unruh is one of the top bats on Missouri’s squad.


+ An arrow-up prospect throughout our summer circuit, C Xander Schmitt (Lafayette, 2024) has carried that early momentum into the Future Games. At a strong 5-foot-11, 173-pounds, Schmitt picked up two hits in this win, including a loud opposite field double that hopped over the fence. Schmitt’s strength translates behind the plate, where he’s routinely ripped off loud throws behind the plate in between innings and on occasional backpicks, too.


+ Perhaps the biggest offensive winner from this game, C/INF Brodie Short (Lutheran St. Charles, 2024) screamed a pair of balls off his left-handed barrel that certainly turned heads. Built at a physical 6-foot-1, 202-pounds, Short brought home a pair of runs on his own and he displayed above-average opposite field power, gapping a hard double to left field.


+ The lone 2025 prospect on Team Missouri, RHP/INF Jordan Martin (Jefferson City) barreled two balls up in this game despite not cracking the hit column. He made a handful of quality plays at shortstop as well, showcasing a well-rounded skill-set as a position prospect. At an ultra-projectable 6-foot-4, 185-pounds, Martin’s ceiling on both sides of the ball is about as high as anyone in the state’s 2025 class.

GAME TWO TAKEAWAYS

+ Building off a positive performance in game one, RHP/INF Jordan Martin (Jefferson City, 2025) continued to catch people’s attention on Friday, taking home ‘Player of the Game’ honors. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound incoming sophomore started on the mound for Team Missouri, punching out three over two scoreless frames. He reached back for an 88 mph high with his heater, sitting 85-87 mph and spinning it at 2,400+ RPM on average. Martin also spun a low-70s curveball for strikes and also spun a more firm slider at 77-78 mph. At the plate, Martin doubled and also made a stellar diving play at second base. Expect him to keep rising up the 2025 ranks, cementing himself as a national name-to-know.


+ The top offensive performer for Team Missouri yesterday was INF Grant Hollister (Blue Springs South, 2024), who picked up two hits and drew a walk. Hollister sneaked one over the right field fence on a line yesterday for a solo home run in his first at-bat. He spoiled several pitches to work a 12-pitch walk his second time up and turned on one for a barreled single to left field later on. Hollister’s been trending upward thus far, starting with a loud showing at Wednesday’s workout and continuing to perform offensively.


+ LHP Brady Kehlenbrink (Parkway South, 2024) fanned two and didn’t allow a hit over his two scoreless innings. Standing at a strong 6-foot-1, 195-pounds, Kehlenbrink reached an 88 mph high, pitching at 85-87 mph from a shorter arm slot. He spun a low-70s curveball around the zone and, on occasion, turned over an upper-70s changeup as well.


+ Working the final two innings for Team Missouri, UTL/RHP Eddie Ahearn (Parkway South, 2024) threw strikes with a three-pitch mix. The sturdy 6-foot-2, 200-pound right-hander worked his fastball up to 88 mph, sitting on the corners at 84-87 mph. Ahearn spun a slurvey-type breaking ball in the low-70s and turned over a 78-80 mph changeup with confidence. He impressed at the plate during the Future Games workout for Team Select as well.


+ After finding barrels in both at-bats on Thursday, left-handed hitting 1B Jackson Glueck (Staley, 2024) put together arguably the loudest all-around BP round prior to Friday’s game. Glueck repeatedly squared balls up to his pull-side, consistently elevating loud contact deep to the right field gap.

+ C Xander Schmitt (Lafayette, 2024) displayed a real powerful skill-set in BP, blasting balls to both gaps with ease throughout his three rounds. Schmitt, who reached a 101.5 mph max exit velocity at the St. Louis Top Prospect Games this summer, has already shown his power in-game, doubling to right field in both Team Missouri’s wins.

+ OF Brady Picarelli (Eureka, 2024) has one of the highest ceilings on Team Missouri. At 6-foot-2, 190-pounds, Picarelli has been on the barrel in multiple at-bats thus far and he’s due to launch one deep to the pull-side in game. Picarelli’s power potential was on display in BP yesterday, sending one of his last batted balls over the right field fence.
