2021 Top Prospect Spotlights
Rocco Reid (LHP, Greenville, Clemson) takes the top spot in the SC 2021 rankings. The 5 foot 11 left hander is mechanically clean with tons of up side. He works down hill with a controlled delivery and good tempo. Reid has a loose arm action and has been up to 87-88 this summer with a high 3/4 arm slot. There is advanced feel for off speed pitches with a CB at 73-76 and a CH at 78.
Reece Holbrook (OF, Hammond, North Carolina) the athletic LHH outfielder has recorded 60 times in the 6.7's this summer. His simple approach at the plate gives him advanced bat to ball skills. Balanced set-up with a shoulder width stance and forward hand set. Uses a soft stride timing mechanism and controlled hand load to a position over the back foot. Efficient and strong lower half through contact and barrel lag create good pop. Natural loft in the bat path could trend toward future increase in power.
Aidan Hunter (RHP, Hanahan, South Carolina) projectable 6 foot 3 frame with length throughout. Hunter has been up to 88 this summer for the Canes National 15u group. His slider is arguably the best pitch of any player in this class. He has consistently landed a tight slider with late break for strikes from 73-75 to complement his FB.
Keyshawn McDonald (RHP/OF, Hartsville, Uncommitted) is arguably the best two way player in the class. A SA Border Battle participate, the rangy OF/RHP has shown the ability to have success on the mound as well as at the plate. The FB has been up to 88 mph with late life, the arm stroke is short and lightening quick. The athleticism speaks for itself at the plate as well as in the field, depending on maturation and need McDonald could find himself filling multiple roles for potential suitors.
Cole Messina (C, Summerville, South Carolina) leads a talented class of catchers in the SC 2021 rankings. The South Carolina recruit possesses physicality that translates to the next level. At 6 foot tall and 215 pounds, Messina has strength in the lower half and square shoulders. Solid defensively, he has flashed a good hit tool during the summer campaign for the Canes 15u National Team with confident feel for the barrel and, at times, swings that suggest plus power potential.
Ethan Salak (RHP, Myrtle Beach, Coastal Carolina) the 6 foot 1 RHP has clean mechanics and some of the best command in this class. The FB has been up to 86 and the quick arm suggests a velocity jump could be coming. Salak is a member of St. James High School and the Canes 15u National team so pitching in big spots is nothing new.
