PODCAST: SoCal ProCase Recap
ORANGE, CA. - The 2019 MLB Draft completed on June 5th, and on June 8th, it was time to turn our attention to the 2020 class at the SoCal ProCase. A select group of players were chosen to participate in this exclusive event geared toward high level collegiate and draft prospects.
Players were put through a pro-style workout - 60 yard dash, exit velocity testing, BP, defensive workout - before participating in scout ball format game that saw eight pitchers toe the rubber. PBR California scouting staff collected various stats/data during the workout and game which can be found HERE.

In this edition of the SoCal ProCase Spotlight we highlight:
OF ISAIAH MARQUEZ (San Dimas HS)
2020 OF Isaiah Marquez of San Dimas HS, and a Long Beach State commit, is listed at 5-foot-11, 185lbs. Medium, compact, athletic, toned frame with muscular definition in upper, lower extremities and barrel chest. Built like a young Brett Gardner (Yankees). Has significant physical projection remaining and will get stronger as he ages.
Hit over power currently with the ability to handle the barrel using both sides of the field. Marquez starts with a quiet, balanced setup with a slightly open stance, high hands, high back elbow, and uses a minimalist trigger load before firing. Demonstrated excellent bat speed, hand-eye coordination and squared it up consistently in his BP rounds. Displays strike zone discipline with knack to handle, and square up secondary pitches, as he proved in the live session against elite pitching. The barrel really stays in the zone for a long time and is geared towards contact. Exhibits gap-to-gap power presently with the capability to occasionally drive the ball over the left field wall. Lacks strength in frame to do big damage now, but is able to square up balls into gaps for high doubles totals.
Marquez shows lead off type speed with powerful first step acceleration. Premier, impact, game-changing baserunner that can steal a base any time. Has the awareness, aptitude to make advanced reads on the bases. Marquez is active, disruptive, and takes pitchers out of their rhythm.
Shows an above average arm tool with proper actions and mechanics. Ball has good carry into infield with slight arm side tail, one-hops mitt consistently, often chest high, firm, and on target. Very sound defensively with natural, instinctive tracking abilities and athleticism and speed to cover mistakes.
Marquez is a good student with intangible qualities that will enhance his development. Has genuine personality, well spoken, is attentive, and easy to talk to.
