September 1 Phone Calls
September 1, 2020
Today is September 1, and that means college coaches are free to initiate phone contact with 2022 players. Though many times coaches may have already been in contact with a player through a conduit, the opening of the restrictions still serves as an important day. Being able to contact a player directly makes it easier for coaches to reach out, especially if that player might not be in the same state or region.
Below is a list of uncommitted 2022 players from the PBR Future Games at Lakepoint that caught my eye, and would be on my “list” of players to get in contact with on September 1. There were others that have already committed to schools since the event ended, and still more uncommitted ones that will be featured in the future.
But, alas, only so many conversations can be had in one day...
Cam Jones, Jr OF / Bishop McNamara, MD / 2022Rankings StateRank: 20 / POS: 2
Jones’ toughness and athleticism stood out for me all weekend as he set the table for what was the toughest lineup to get through at the event (Mid-Atlantic). He posted a 6.59 60-yard dash time on a slow track, and bounced around in centerfield with confident glove skills and crisp routes. The compact, 5-foot-8, 155-pound left-handed hitter was a tough out in games, battling deep into counts against some of the top arms at the event before producing multiple hits. He has a balanced approach from a wide stance, and there is quickness to the hands with a flat path, and gap-to-gap, line drive strength. His impressive speed plays up even higher in-game, and showcased a knack for swiping a bag. More than anything, the confidence that he exhibited throughout will likely help him continue to make quick developmental progress in coming years, and his potential as an impact top-of-the-order player will likely attract college coaches. |
