Senior Games: Preview
August 6, 2018
Tomorrow, on Tuesday, Aug. 7, PBR Illinois has invited 60 of the state’s best incoming seniors to Triton College to participate in 2018 Senior Games. To date, each and every one of the prospects set to attend tomorrow’s event are uncommitted. A number of those set to attend tomorrow are ranked within Illinois’ Class of 2019 board.
On Tuesday, these under-the-radar prospects will be given the platform to perform in front of the scouting and recruiting communities in both a pre-game workout and in-game environment. For a look at who’s set to take the field tomorrow, check out the roster clicking HERE.
At last year’s Senior Games, of the 100 prospects in attendance, more than 60 have since gone on to commit to playing at the collegiate level. A more select number of players will be headed to Triton tomorrow, but ample opportunity remains to be seen.
The 60 prospects at Senior Games will be split into four teams.
One of the top batteries at tomorrow’s event will be Team 1’s RHP Coby Moe (Grayslake Central) and C Ben Harris (Prairie Ridge). Both players are ranked within the top-75 within their state’s class and both remain two of the most intriguing uncommitted prospects at Senior Games. Moe has been up to 86 mph in the past and has the makings of a three- or even four-pitch mix. He utilizes two different breaking balls, a curve and slider, that have swing-and-miss potential and his changeup has looked deceptive on our looks.
Coby Moe (4.25.18)
We saw Harris just a couple weeks back at Top Prospect - Milwaukee where he tied for the event’s best pop time and also recorded a 7.04 mark in his 60-yard dash. His strong arm behind the plate also works on the mound, too, where he was up to 88 mph.
Looking at Team 2’s roster, 3B Nick Kosmetatos’ (St. Francis) name sticks out. He’s the top-ranked third baseman within his state’s class for a multitude of reasons. Kosmetatos is an advanced defender at the hot corner, with the soft hands, big arm, and athleticism to make the position work at the next level. At the plate, he’s got a fast bat and he makes loud contact with it on the regular. He’s the highest-ranked prospect at Senior Games.
Nick Kosmetatos (6.12.18)
On Team 3, one arm to watch belongs to RHP Ryan Rhoda (Prairie Central), who’s 6-foot-4 frame grants him a high ceiling at the next level. He works in the mid 80s with a put-away curveball that breaks sharp and late. This combination of arsenal and upside has given Rhoda a top-75 ranking, too.
And it’s been a year since we’ve had the pleasure of seeing OF Darrius Little (Simeon) in person, so he’ll be giving us an added reason to be watching Team 4 closely. His premier athleticism alone makes him one to follow tomorrow.
