Preseason All-State: Statistical Analysis
March 24, 2021
On March 20, the PBR Illinois team hosted its annual Preseason All-State showcase, bringing together a collection of the state’s best juniors in one place, Bo Jackson’s Elite Sports Dome in Lockport, Ill.
We began our post-event breakdown on Monday, detailing the prospects who exited the event with their prospect arrows pointed way up inside of this Quick Hits post. We highlighted the showcase’s biggest takeaways, focusing on the high-follow uncommitted juniors in the class, accompanied by written analysis and video. On Tuesday, with the help of our TrackMan unit on-site, we published TrackMan Files, which analyzed the pitch metrics and batted-ball data that revealed additional impressive performances from a more statistical perspective. We’ll continue that trend today, assessing the leaderboards across each of these traditional statistical categories from Saturday:

Nearly 30 prospects ran a sub-7.00 in the 60-yard dash on Saturday, led by INF Jack Scheri (LaSalle Peru; Creighton commit), who stood out statistically elsewhere, and was among the day’s pound-for-pound top performers, as referenced inside Quick Hits.
-
C Keegan Connors (Jacobs; uncommitted) is a versatile athlete with advanced foot speed. He cut down on his 60 time demonstrably over the offseason, from an already impressive 6.75 to a 6.54 on Saturday. He has a twitchy left-handed swing as well as arm strength that helped him record a 78 mph high from the crouch; he’s previously shown well from the outfield, too.
-
Another Jacobs product, OF Joe Fiorenza (uncommitted) ran a 6.57 – down all the way from a 7.01 in October – while adding more impactful left-handed bat strength and a little more velocity from the outfield.
-
INF John Ahler (Marian Central Catholic; uncommitted) showed very well at a PBR Wisconsin event earlier this month, and he backed it up by besting his 60 time there, running a 6.64. He’s a smooth defender with up-the-middle actions and an athletic right-handed bat; still uncommitted.
-
Myles Supurgeci (Mount Carmel; uncommitted) is a twitchy right/right outfielder with foot speed and a spray-type offensive profile.
-
OF Luke Adams’ (Hinsdale Central; Michigan State) moves very well for someone built at a physical 6-foot-3, 205 pounds. His speed and strength combination profiles as an impactful middle-of-the-order right fielder at the next level.

This ultra deep group had nine prospects record a 90-plus mph high throw to first, and it’s full of uncommitted follows:
-
A top-10-ranked junior in the state, INF Logan Wagner (Homeschool, 2022; Louisville) excelled in his PBR event debut, running a 6.71, reaching a 94 mph high across the infield, after taking an advanced switch-hit round of BP.
-
C/INF Jayden Lobliner (St. Charles North; Kansas State) has a broad, strong 5-foot-9, 177-pound build with a strength that appears in his right-handed bat, as well as his arm, that topped 94 mph to first and 83 to second from behind the plate.
-
INF Easton Harris (Washington Community; uncommitted) is among the top uncommitted infielders in the state, especially following an excellent all-around showing on Saturday. He’s highly athletic, twitchy on offense, with noteworthy bat speed scores, and he’s continued to show as a high-level middle infielder. Harris ran a 6.75, reached a 93 mph high to first, and enhanced his batted-ball profile over the offseason.
-
INF Kyle Schupmann (Luther Prep, WI; uncommitted) has some similarly impressive tools. He generates plus bat speed that leads to repeat, hard-hit contact from the right side, and he’s equipped with arm strength, too.
-
Still uncommitted, Patrick Graham (Naperville North) is as advanced as there is on the infield in the state’s 2022 class – committed or otherwise. He’s a highly athletic shortstop with true arm strength and fluid body control.
-
Shai Robinson (Homewood-Flossmoor; Illinois State) is in a similar class of defender as Graham, with deft, soft hands and athleticism attached to arm strength that reached a 90 mph high across.

OF Lucas Pajeau (Lockport Township) picked a good time and place to stand out. The uncommitted outfielder led his position in velo to home, and he was one of six batters to register a triple-digit exit speed, and he began his day by running a 6.85.
-
Referenced earlier as a prototypical right field profile, Adams reached a 93 mph to home to further indicate a long-term fit at the position.
-
RHP/OF Evan Jones (Normal University; uncommitted) will sit near the top of most of the categories he participates in. His physicality generates premium arm strength and bat speed, as he topped 92 mph here.
-
OF Luke Doty (Metamora; uncommitted) is a lean 6-foot athlete who ran a 6.76, topped 92 mph to home, and registered a max exit speed of 95 mph in BP.
-
Kentucky recruit Brendan Summerhill (Whitney Young) is a high-level athlete in an upside 6-foot-3, 185-pound build who topped 90 mph to home after reaching a 99 mph max exit speed from the left-handed batter’s box; also a 6.83 runner.
-
Up to 90 mph to home, Oklahoma recruit Ramon Jimerson Jr. (Sacred Heart-Griffin) is another committed, statistical stand-out. Another sub-7.00 runner with compact strength that produced easy right-handed contact from a simple approach, while also gliding around the outfield with smooth, athletic actions.

A highlight of both the Quick Hits and TrackMan Files, RHP/C Matthew Tarr (West Aurora; uncommitted) has prominent arm strength that plays from both the mound and behind the plate, as he recorded one of the day’s highest fastball velocities, and topped this leaderboard.
-
Lobliner averaged the lowest pop time of the event, amongst a highly competitive group of backstops.
-
Huntley’s Ryan Kelly (uncommitted) has been one of the winners early this year. A loose right-handed hitter with above-average actions from behind the plate – he was also up to 87 mph on the mound at the McHenry I.D.
-
Kelly’s high school teammate Brandon Hanley (Huntley; uncommitted) has clean and quick actions that helped him grade out as one of the top defensive catchers in attendance.
-
Mizzou recruit Charlie Marisca (Grayslake Central) is an athletic backstop who showed as one of the top defensive catchers in attendance, recording an 82 mph high through the infield and among the day’s lowest pops.
-
While his right-handed bat is his biggest strength, Will Plattner (Glenwood; uncommitted) is increasingly capable of handling the behind-the-plate duties, with some of the group’s lowest average pops in addition to an arm that reached an 81 mph high to second; he also recorded a 100.3 mph max exit speed from the right-handed batter's box.
