PBR Junior Future Games: Day 1
July 31, 2020
The PBR Junior Future Games is finally in full swing as all JFG teams went through a pro-style workout and just completed a day full of games. We have brought over two 14U teams and a 13U team to compete against other PBR states at LakePoint Sports Complex in Emerson, GA. After playing two pool play games today, each team will be reseeded into another pool in either the Gold or Silver Open to determine who will advance to the Final Four.
Now that each team has completed their first round of pool play games, let's take a look at recaps and top performers from each games.
Team Alabama 14u
Game 1
Team Alabama got off to.a hot start at the PBR Junior Future Games by defeating PBR Nevada by score of 11-1 in 5 innings. '24 SS/RHP Jackson Hunter (Hazel Green) got the start on the mound for Alabama and really found a grove after struggling a bit with command. Ran the fastball up to 81 mph and swung it well throughout the day. One of the top bats from this team that stood out during the workout and the games was '24 3B/SS Tanner Waldrop (Auburn). From the left-side, Waldrop shows some serious juice and a gap-to-pull side approach. Impressive barrel awareness and shows the ability to adjust to certain pitches and still drive the ball.

The Alabama offense continued to stand out during Game 1 as they posted 11 runs in 5 innings. Pitching was effective and pounded the zone for the most part.
Game 2
After winning Game 1, Alabama dropped their second game to PBR Missouri/Kansas by score of 21-7 in 5 innings. Pitching struggled a bit but the bats continued to produce. After getting down 9-0 in the 4th, Alabama loaded the bases and '24 SS/2B Nicholas Sharp (Madison County) drove a ball to the pull-side gap for a 2 RBI double to make it 9-5. '24 3B/SS Tanner Waldrop (Auburn) continued to impress with the stick as he drove another ball to the pull-side gap for a RBI single in the inning as well.

In the later innings, the Missouri/Kansas offense would prove to be too much for Alabama. Pitching struggled to find the zone but give credit to Missouri/Kansas for taking advantage of it. Alabama would finish Day 1 going 1-1.

Game 2
Alabama (2) dropped Game 2 of the PBR Junior Future Games to PBR Mid-Atlantic (2) by score of 9-4. Team Alabama 13U
Game 1
Team Alabama kicked off their PBR Junior Future Games week versus Mid-Atlantic over on Field 11. Out of the gate, the bats for both teams really stood out as it seemed like there were multiple extra-base hits in each inning. After dropping down 4-0 in the top-half of the 1st inning, Team Alabama answered right back with three of it's own, one coming off the bat of '25 OF Santae McWilliams Jr. (Saraland). The right-handed hitting outfielder fouled off some tough pitches in his first AB before lacing a single back up the middle for a RBI single. Ran a 6.85 at yesterday's workout.
Here’s a 2025 to keep close tabs on. OF Santae McWilliams Jr. (@Santae_Jr; @SaralandB) smokes an RBI single to CF in his 1st AB of the Junior Future Games. Ran a 6.85 at yesterday’s workout. Had a great summer with @LouisianaKnight. 13’s lead 3-0 in the 1st.#JFG2020 pic.twitter.com/78lg4r07rj

Hitting seemed to have the upper hand in this game, as both teams continue to trade runs back and forth. Some other hitters who stood out were '25 C/3B Noah Blackburn (Mobile Christian), '25 SS/RHP Charlie Cassingham (Grissom), and '26 C/SS Bryce Rivers (Mobile Christian). Rivers one-hopped the wall in left field for a RBI ground-rule double in the middle innings. The Mid-Atlantic offense proved to be too much to overcome as they went on to win Game 1 14-8.
Game 2
The second game of the PBR Junior Future Games saw Team Alabama matching up against PBR Tennessee. Hitting had the upper-hand yet again, especially for the Tennessee lineup. Pitching struggled throughout the game as Alabama had some trouble limiting walks and made some costly errors, but there were some more young bats that stood out. One of those was '25 C Hudson Gilman (Oxford), as he registered a base hit to LF that scored one of Alabama's lone runs of the game. Tennessee went on to win Game 2 by score of 11-2 in 5 innings.
