Ontario Insider: T12 Outlook - The Futures Team
With T12 starting up on the 14th, we take a look at some of the Ontario players from what will be the Futures Team (Team Navy). Of the 24 man roster, 15 of them hail from Ontario, and 9 of them have participated at the PBR Future Games in Indianapolis.
All 15 players are uncommitted, and range from the 2019 and 2020 grad classes. Below are some quick tidbits, the roster, schedule, and what we can expect from the youngsters at the 2017 Tournament 12.
The Future Is Now
Jaden Brown SS / 2B / St. Marcellinus, ON / 2019Rankings State Rank:1 POS:1 Overall Rank:82 POS:16
Brown, the number 1 prospect in the 2019 class is well known on the recruiting scene, with major D1 consideration from some of the top schools in the country. Athleltic, strong, runs, and shows advanced bat speed from the right side of the plate. Is beginning to mature as a player, with a very high ceiling. Will be a big week and could be a national coming out party for Brown. |
Owen Diodati C / A.N. Myer, ON / 2019Big physical, left-handed hitting catcher at 6-foot-3, 200-pounds. Had himself a strong four days in Indianapolis and looks to be one of the better all around catchers in his class. Power bat and will put on displays in BP. |
Tyrell Schofield-Sam 3B / OF / North Park, ON / 2019Rankings State Rank:10 POS:1
T12 and Future Games participant last year. Has since gained strength and made some adjustments to leg kick at the plate. Performs and puts up numbers while seems to have a knack for big base hits. |
Stephen Kinal RHP / Christ the King , ON / 2020Rankings Overall Rank:139 POS:33
Stocky right-hander with fastball that has been up to 88 mph. Loves to pitch with a big compete level. No doubt Kinal will be fired up this week. Stuff has improved with better feel for strike zone and an improving breaking ball. |
Evan Elliott RHP / SS / Michael Power St. Joseph, ON / 2019Rankings State Rank:14 POS:3
Big right-hander at 6-foot-3, 197-pounds, wide shoulders and still room to fill out. Life to his fastball and downhill angle. Has chance to be a power arm given arm and size. |
Noel McGarry Doyle OF / 1B / St. Elizabeth's, ON / 2019Rankings State Rank:12 POS:4
Toolsy and athletic with lots of strength. Still raw at the plate and with fundamentals at times, still seems to find barrels with strong hand eye and speed/power combo that will play more in the future. Doyle may have the most upside of anyone on the whole team. |
Caden Griffin LHP / OF / John McCrae, ON / 2019Small, athletic with live arm and quickness out front. Griffin, a southpaw with natural action on mid-80s fastball, backs that up with changeup and curveball and has a chance to be one of the top arms in the country for the 2019 class. Velocity has jumped since spring and Griffin’s stock continues to rise. |
Don't Sleep On
Noah Case 3B / RHP / Richview CI, ON / 2019Rankings State Rank:13 POS:2
Right-handed bat that makes consistent hard contact. Power to all fields and sprays the baseball. Very hitterish with bat speed. Look for him to have a good week at the plate. |
Eric Martin OF / RHP / St. Mary's HS, ON / 2019Rankings State Rank:8 POS:2
Big tall left-handed bat at 6-foot-3, 185-pounds. Frame looks very similar to big right-hander Eric Cerantola. There is gonna be some balls that are juiced by Martin in BP, has rhythm to swing, looseness and bat speed with lots of upside. |
Joel Mcknight OF / Brooklin, ON / 2019Rankings State Rank:11 POS:3
Went off at the PBR Future Games, lots of line drives with above average speed and 6.6 runner. Arm is clean and will get stronger as he adds strength. Athletic player with quick hands at the plate. |
Brandon Deans RHP / OF / Our Lady of Mount Carmel, ON / 2019Rankings State Rank:25 POS:5
Lanky right-hander with a fastball that works in the 83-85 mph range. Delivery is compact with minimal movements and clean arm in the back. Reps and innings are his best friend as he polishes his off-speed stuff. |
Noah Roberts SS / RHP / ON / 2019Rankings State Rank:20 POS:3
Left-handed bat and big frame that is going to get stronger and add more muscle. Plays corner in the infield, yet to see behind the plate. Arm strength there to catch, hands work in the infield, will be interesting to see him behind the dish. |
Eric Chartier SS / RHP / St. Maximilian Kolbe, ON / 2019Rankings State Rank:54 POS:9
Good actions defensively, soft hands and arm works across the diamond. Moves well side to side with body control, frame is going to mature with lots of weight and strength to gain. Quiet actions in the box, keeps it simple and plays to his game. |
Saturday Arms
Keegan Pulford-Thorpe and Hayden Pilmer will be the two arms that take on Ontario Green at 6:00 on Saturday. Both were involved in the first Ontario win at the PBR Future Games this year in Indy. Thorpe is a smooth lefty with an easy arm and can spin the breaking ball with depth and bite. Pilmer is the big workhorse from Windsor who is country strong but shows pitchability in his game while working in the range of 83-85 mph with his fastball.

T12 Weekly Outlook
Always a fan favourite at Tournament 12, the Futures team has a few key returning players in Jaden Brown, Mcknight, Pilmer, and Schofield, along with new faces like Diodati and Pulford-Thorpe and Martin who will be key contributors. Daniel Martin from British Columbia is one of the better hitters in BC, a left-handed bat with hand eye coordination and good feel for the box will be add to the offense. In a pool with Atlantic, Prairies, and Quebec, Saturday night’s game versus Ontario could be the deciding factor in whether Futures see’s action on Championship Sunday.
