Nebraska 2020 Rankings Updated
August 31, 2018
With the new school year started and the summer Legion, showcase and travel season ending, it's time for us to update the Nebraska Class of 2020 Rankings. Since we last updated the full rankings, there have been a number of prospects in the 2020 class that have broken into the rankings as we extend the list from 30 to 50 prospects throughout the state. This incoming junior class update is an important one because it reflects how the top prospects in the state performed and developed with a jam-packed summer.
You'll notice a brand new No. 1 sitting atop the rankings. RHP Tyler Ruhl (Ranked 269 in National Rankings), who recently moved from Norris High School to Centura High School, separated himself from the pack of arms in the 2020 class with consistent development over the last year. Ruhl, who possesses an athletic 6-foot-3, 190-pound frame cruised through his two innings of work at the Futures Games and showed signs of being a front-line starter at the Division 1 level. He works effortlessly in the 87-89 mph range from a mid 3/4 arm slot with loose arm action. He's flashed signs of an above average 11/5 breaking ball that can be thrown at any time in the count. Given Ruhl's frame and athleticism; it would not be a surprise to see his velocity continue to rise moving forward into the 2019 season.
Moving up to No. 2 in rankings is Millard West shortstop Max Anderson (Ranked 279 in National Rankings) who is arguably the best true shortstop in Nebraska and one of the top in the Midwest. Anderson athleticism has continued to progress and he continued to prove it throughout the 2018 season. He has advanced easy actions, fluid feet, soft hands and a strong arm across the diamond. The right-handed hitter stays short to the ball, has quick-twitch in his swing, and produces hard contact consistently at the plate.
SS/RHP Trey Frahm (Ranked #282 in National Rankings) from Elkhorn has evolved into the top two-way prospect in the 2020 class and comes in at No.3 in the 2020 Nebraska Rankings. He played at a high level at the 2018 Futures Games and gained attention from many coaches with his blue collar approach in the field and at the plate. Frahm possesses an elite level arm in the infield which has translated to an 88-90 mph fastball on the mound; with a chance to help a Division 1 school on the mound as well.
Coming in at No. 5 & No. 6 in the 2020 class are the two current committed prospects for the 2020 class with Lexington's Kaleb Carpenter (Creighton) and Papillion LaVista's Garrett Anglim (Wichita State).
