Plant City, FL- The Riverview Sharks visited the Plant City Raiders in a matchup that featured a strong pitching performance from 2019 LHP Parker Messick (Plant City HS, FL) and some timely hitting from 2017 OF Dalton Wingo (Plant City HS, FL) and 2018 OF Dylan Robinson (Plant City HS, FL) who combined for four hits, two RBIs, and a run scored. Still down 5-0 going into the top of the sixth, the Sharks cut the deficit to two when 2017 OF Justin Farmer (Riverview HS, FL) drove a ball over the left field wall for a three-run home run. The Sharks threatened again in the top of the seventh by loading the bases, but ended the game on a fly out to the second baseman as the Raiders would hang on for the 5-3 victory.
Messick earned the win for the Raiders and only made one mistake on the night as he worked with good poise and confidence on the mound. The uncommitted sophomore has a strong, solid build and featured a fastball that was mostly 83-84 mph with some sink along with a 64-67 mph curveball that showed depth and shape. Messick finished his night by going six innings with five strikeouts and three runs allowed on six hits.
For the Raiders, 2017 OF Dalton Wingo (Plant City HS, FL) went 2-for-3 on the night with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. The Central Florida recruit displayed an aggressive approach in the box and tracked the ball well in centerfield. 2020 IF Jarod Wingo (Plant City HS, FL) also chipped in by going 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored while showing a quick release and range in the infield.
2017 OF Justin Farmer (Riverview HS, FL) went 2-for-3 on the night which included the three-run home run along with a single. The Florida recruit also showed a quick first step and the ability to run the ball down in the gaps while playing centerfield. 2017 SS Freddy Tarnok (Riverview HS, FL) had a solid night at the plate by going 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
With the win, the Plant City Raiders moved to 4-7 on the season and will take on King HS on March 30th at 7pm. The 9-6 Sharks will look to bounce back when they go up against Lennard HS on March 31st at 7pm.
