Despite a late inning rally by Great Bridge, Lafayette would use some clutch at bats and timely defense to win the 4A Regional Championship game by a score of 6-5.

Both teams would leave a few runners on base in the first two innings, but it would be Lafayette that would strike first in the third. Geo Rivera would single home Ozzie Torres making it 1-0 Rams. After that Lafayette used two out singles from Mike Labella and Thomas McLaughlin pushing the score to 3-0 Lafayette.

The score would remain until the bottom of the fifth when Great Bridge would send home their first run on a first and third play making the score 3-1 after five innings.

Lafayette would respond with two runs in the top of the sixth by way of three singles and two errors by the Wildcats. Lafayette threatened for more runs, but was doubled up on a line drive to right that would allow Great Bridge to only trail 5-1.

Great Bridge would tighten it up once again with a single scoring Evan Simons from second and we would head to the seventh with Lafayette leading 5-2.

Lafayette's Ryan Labella came up with another two out hit and singled home Mike Labella getting us back to a four run game at 6-2.

In the bottom half of the inning Great Bridge would mount a comeback that was assisted by Simons. Simons hit a one out single to the Rams left fielder, who then had the ball get by him and that would allow Simons and his elite speed to score on the play and clear the two Wildcat runners making it 6-5. The next hitter would single back through the middle, but freshman Luke Hanson would get two fly balls to end this one with a 6-5 final.

The Rams will host Midlothian in the state quarterfinals on Tuesday at 6:00 PM.

Great Bridge will travel to Hanover on Tuesday night.
