Junior College Prospect Rankings: Top 100

Walt Jones
JUCO Scouting Director

After 2019 saw 103 NJCAA prospects taken in the MLB draft, this year’s draft looks to be loaded with junior college talent once again. Last summer, Jackson Rutledge was on hand at the MLB Network studio in Secaucus, NY when his name was called as the Washington Nationals first round pick, #17 overall. Rutledge is a product of NJCAA perennial powerhouse, San Jacinto CC (TX) who led the NJCAA with 6 players drafted in the 2019 amateur draft. The 2019 NJCAA D1 National Champions, Central Arizona CC were also well represented in last year’s draft with five players drafted, tying Wabash Valley CC (IL).

At the top of this year’s JUCO Top 100, is McLennan’s Connor Phillips. This freshman right-hander was No. 34 in the 2019 class overall rankings before choosing to improve his stock at McLennan. Phillips has shown a big arm this year flashing a fastball up to 98 mph.

Phillips is followed on the list by two left-handers out of San Jacinto in Luke Little and Mitchell Parker. Shortstop Ryan Ritter of John A. Logan comes in at the No. 4 spot with RHP Franco Aleman of St. Johns River rounding out the Top 5.
