Joliet Preseason I.D.: Statistical Analysis
March 31, 2021
On March 28, the PBR Illinois team hosted this first-ever Joliet Preseason I.D. at the new Rhino Baseball Academy in Shorewood, Ill. The event marked the end of our high school winter showcase circuit, and around 120 players from the area participated.
On Tuesday, our staff collaborated to highlight the biggest takeaways from Sunday’s showcase, and published them within our Quick Hits piece. Over the next couple of days we’ll be diving deeper into all of the data we collected, rolling out even more coverage from the event, including today, where we’ll highlight the top statistical performers from Sunday’s event in our traditional statistical analysis.
+ Two former PBR Future Games members continued to solidify themselves as top prospects in the state’s 2022 class: RHP Ashton Izzi (Oswego East; Wichita State commit) and RHP/C Abram Wills (Coal City; uncommitted). Izzi is a major arrow-up prospect who recently debuted in our updated national rankings at No. 156 overall, after a noteworthy uptick in velocity this offseason. He touched an event-high 94 mph with his fastball, comfortably sitting at 92-93, and he's still filling out his 6-foot-3, 175-pound frame. Wills is still uncommitted, and he had a strong two-way showing on Sunday. He started his workout off by recording a max exit velocity of 95 mph in batting practice and later popped an 80 mph high from the crouch – which led the event. Wills then hopped on the mound and comfortably pumped 86-88 mph fastballs into the zone for strikes.
+ From Libertyville, 6-foot-4, 205-pound OF Michael Addari (2022) had a strong statistical showing at Sunday’s event. He ran a 7.12 in the 60-yard dash to start his day, uncorked an 87 mph high throw to home from the outfield, and his best barrel registered at 99 mph in BP – all of which were near the top of their respective leaderboards from this event.
+ Left-handed-hitting C/OF Dylan Sayles (Hononegah, 2022) put together a quality statistical performance for the second time this winter. A 6-foot, 170-pound athlete, Sayles ran a 7.05 in the 60-yard dash and finished towards the top of both the max outfield and catcher throwing velocity leaderboards.
+ INF Peyton Burgh (Prospect, 2022) is a strong 5-foot-11, 185-pound athlete who comfortably ran the fastest 60-yard dash of the event, clocking in at a laser-timed 6.72 seconds. He also recorded the second highest infield velocity of the day, firing one across the diamond to first base at 85 mph.
+ RHP/OF Oliver Barkal (New Trier, 2022) emerged as a statistical winner from Sunday’s event after a strong offseason led to an uptick in his present arsenal. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Barkal touched 88 mph with his fastball – the second highest max fastball velocity of the event. That arm strength translated to the field, where he reached an event-high 89 mph from the outfield.
+ RHP Chase Martin (Roanoke-Benson, 2022) made his PBR event debut and impressed our staff. The projectable 6-foot-3, 170-pound right-hander bumped his fastball up to 87 mph, the third highest max velocity in attendance.
+ A follow name on the mound from the 2024 class: RHP Ryan Anderson (Minooka). The 6-foot-5, 180-pound Anderson touched 83 mph with his fastball, sitting at 82-83 mph, which was the second highest mark among underclassmen in attendance.
