Illinois 2020 Signing Period: Ohio Valley
December 2, 2019
Throughout the next couple of weeks, the PBR Illinois team is going to be examining the 100-plus prospects on their way to Division-I destinations next fall, breaking them down conference by conference.
We kicked off the series by looking at the Big Ten, MAC and Horizon conferences. Today, we’re onto the Ohio Valley Conference, one set to welcome 13 names, as of today, their way in the fall of 2020.
It’s important to note that we broke down all of the in-state D-I programs at length just a couple weeks back. You can find Part One here and Part Two here. If you’re looking for full, detailed breakdowns of Illinois’ top programs and their complete 2019 recruiting classes, check it out.
For now, here’s what you can look forward to inside Ohio Valley baseball scene in the not-too-distant future.

Four in-state athletes are headed to Charleston to represent Eastern Illinois, led by one of the state’s best catchers, Trevor Davis (Danville). You can read more about their entire incoming 2020 class right here.

Two prospects from Illinois are headed to SIU-Edwardsville. Their top-ranked commit from the state of Illinois is RHP Noah Matheny (Galesburg). Matheny is a strong-bodied right-handed pitcher with competitiveness on the mound and an understanding of how to pitch. Matheny has a clean and easy arm, sits comfortably in the mid-to-upper 80s, and has an above-average breaking ball. Learn more about the Cougars whole incoming 2020 class here.

Noah Matheny | IL (61) | Galesburg | RHP |
Two prospects are Eastern Kentucky bound: SS Kevin Coe Jr. (Whitney Young) and OF Winston Hill (St. Rita). Coe has seen his stock continue to rise over the last calendar year and is currently ranked No. 40 in the state. Coe has a simple, strong bat from both sides of the plate and should be able to stick on the middle infield moving forward. Hill is a high-upside, left/left outfielder with an athletic, physical 6-foot-2, 192-pound frame.
Kevin Coe Jr. (2.23.19)
Murray State captured a couple Illinois arms: RHP Jack Wenninger (Cary-Grove) and LHP Jake Lynch (Wheaton North). Wenninger repeats his loose right-handed arm well inside his 6-foot-2 frame; he sat 85-87 mph with control and feel back in July in front of our staff at a tournament. Lynch has a wide-shouldered 6-foot-2, 205-pound frame and has reportedly made a massive jump in velocity over the past couple months. Reports had his fastball climbing into the upper-80's this fall.
Belleville West’s Joey Kossina is SEMO’s lone Illinois recruit in the 2020 class. He’s a competitive left-hander with mid-80s velocity.
Belmont snagged Stagg’s, Eddie Lovell, who is one of the better left-handed bats in the class. Lovell has a strong frame, simple swing with quick, strong hands. Lovell hunts the fastball, has feel for the barrel and makes a lot of hard contact.
Morehead State landed a top-100 Illinois prospect, OF Jacob Ferry (Oswego East). Ferry is a strong left-handed hitter with an above-average run tool (6.84 mark in the 60-yard dash). Ferry has the ability to backspin baseballs to the pull-side and has not yet tapped into his full power-potential.
Jacob Ferry (2.10.19)
