GHSA Playoffs: Marist Bats Power Past Jefferson

Atlanta, GA - Second round of GHSA 4A Playoffs continued in Atlanta as the War Eagles of Marist hosted the Dragons of Jefferson. Marist advanced to the Round of Eight with a sweep by winning Game One, 6-3 and Game two, 10-0.
Game One
After a scoreless first inning for both teams, Jefferson would get on the board in the top of the second inning. Chattanooga State recruit, Nick Sellers (2021), would drive a deep double to the wall in CF to get the rally started.

After an infield base-hit from Rem Maxwell, uncommitted 2021 INF, Landon Richards, would drive in two runs to give Jefferson a 2-0 lead.

Marist would answer in the bottom of the third inning when ‘21 SS San Diego recruit, Thomas Rollauer, lined a double down the left field line that would tie the game at two.

Another 2-run double by the War Eagles in the inning would give them a 4-2 lead. This time, 2021 Georgia Tech recruit, Tyler Hare, would turn a pitch around down the right field line. This would not be the last we hear from Hare on the day.

Jefferson starting pitcher, Rem Maxwell (‘21, Georgia Southern), competed in the outing. Despite a long third inning, Maxwell was able to throw 6 IP, and pick up 9 K.

Getting the win on the mound for Marist was uncommitted ‘22 RHP Preston Larmore. Larmore went 5.1 IP, allowing 2 R. Fastball sat 81-82 for majority of start.

Game Two
The scoring would start early for Marist in the first inning as ‘22 Wofford commit, Andrew Mannelly, would single in his first AB - the first of four hits for him in the game. Tyler Hare would hit a towering 2R home run on a breaking ball to give them War Eagles a 2-0 lead.

The starting pitcher for Jefferson, 2024 Jase Peoples, would settle in and throw a scoreless second and third inning.
A big arm to follow will be ‘24 RHP/UTL Jase Peoples out of @jdragonbaseball. Has present arm strength, running the FB up to 88 tonight.

In the fourth inning, Hare would come up big again for Marist. This time on a fastball, he hit another no-doubt home run bringing the Marist lead to seven.
Ryan McTighe had an outstanding pitching performance for the War Eagles. He would go 6.2 IP, striking out 15, allowing no runs. Marist would walk away with a 10-0 victory in Game Two.
