Fresno Easter Classic: All-Prospect First Team

PBR California Staff

After spending three days criss-crossing Fresno to get to multiple stadiums and cross-checking players, our staff has come up with the first ever Fresno Easter Classic All-Prospect Team. This group of players caught the attention of our scouts multiple times throughout the weekend and we felt that they deserved recognition based on their tools, talents and performance.

Without further ado, here is the Fresno Easter Classic All-Prospect 1st Team.

C - 2020 Daniel Susac (Jesuit) - Oregon State Commit. One of the top 2020 catching prospects continued to show why during the tournament. Showed off his arm with throws around 1.95 and rarely above 2.0-2.02. Agile blocker and soft hands. Excellent back-picker and has the guts to do it at anytime. Got pitched very tough all tournament as teams recognize his talent and don’t want him to beat them. Plenty of bat speed and raw power, with a heavy barrel.

1B - 2019 Kaden Sheedy (Stockdale) - Cal Poly Commit. Large physical frame swang the bat well all week showing barrel control and power. On 2nd day drove balls into both gaps with game winner getting Stockdale a victory. On 3rd day showed off his power with 3 HR’s. Also a RHP but we didn't see him throw during the tournament. Showed well around the bag at 1st all tournament also with the ability to make plays using his glove.

MIF - 2019 Brady Hormel (Buchanan) - Nevada Commit. Hit, hit and hit. Hormel was the table setter for Buchanan all tournament with barrel control and power. On day 1 brought Buchanan back with a missile over the RF wall to win the game before driving the ball all around the field for more hits on day 2 and 3. Showed strong defensive skills as well with an above average arm and outstanding footwork making plays all over the diamond.

MIF - 2022 Mikey Bell (San Joaquin Memorial) - Uncommitted. Medium framed middle infielder who showed present tools that teams will be coveting in the near future. The physical build has the projection coveted and the range and arm strength to stick at the 6-spot in the future. At the plate grinded out quality at-bats with a gap-to-gap future bat that will hit atop the order.

3B - 2020 Garret Forrester (Bella Vista) - Oregon State Commit. Large, physical frame that is country strong showing skills and the arm to be able to stick at the hot corner. Barreled lots of pitches showing off his power in game with his laser HR over the LF fence and long 2B over the CF head. Plenty of arm strength and fair footwork to be at 3B for the foreseeable future.

OF - 2019 Darrien Miller (Clovis) - New Mexico Commit. Ok we cheated a bit here as Miller mostly caught during the tournament, but he’s also played the OF this season and when you play as well as Miller did, the scouts find a way to get you on the All-Prospect Team. Consistently found barrels all week showing off feel for it and driving high end velocity all over the field. Athletic and rangy build that showed ability to move easily behind the plate with strong average and accurate arm (1.97-2.02 Pop in multiple between inning looks).

OF - 2019 Miguel Ortiz (Buchanan) - Fullerton Commit. Long, medium frame showed multiple tools during the week with plus speed (4.15 H-1st) and plus raw strength at the plate. He's got a quick trigger, plenty of bat speed and in multiple viewings he showed the ability to hunt a pitch in a situation and do damage. Very dangerous hitter, both physically and mentally. Add in his ability to track the ball in the OF and you can see why he made the team.

OF - 2019 Michael Garabedian (Clovis West) - Uncommitted. Ignited the Clovis offense over multiple days with the barrel control to drive balls into each gap being able to be on the FB with sneaky pop. Used his aggressive quickness to take extra bases and put pressure on defense while also being able to be a useful outfielder. Solid all-around baseball player.

UTL - 2021 Jake Sapien (Buhach Colony) - Uncommitted. Started the week off with a 5IP No-Hitter striking out 8. FB was electric from a loose arm working 84-86 T89 MPH and matched it with a late biting SLD at 68-71 MPH. His pitching was good enough to make the team, but he also flashed a quick bat with aggressive full body hacks driving balls deep into gaps and collecting hits during the first two days and driving in a run during their Championship victory.

P - 2021 Tonko Susac (Jesuit) - Oregon State Commit. Big strong durable body with a workhorse type of build showed his loose whippy arm during their first game against eventual runner up Clovis High. FB worked 88-92, T93 MPH before settling in at 88-90 MPH touching 91 in 4th. SLD shows plus potential 77-79 MPH changing between slurvy to sharp-biting action. Flashed CHG at 81-82 MPH showing feel for it and flashing more. One of our biggest risers in the 2021 State Rankings.

P - 2019 TJ Fondtain (Buchanan) - SDSU Commit. Another 2-way guys who showed well in both avenues picking up the win on the final day going 7IP striking out 9 and giving up 1 run on 4 hits. FB 86-88 MPH with good arm side movement. CB 72-74 MPH with sweeping 1/7 shape that’s continuing to develop. CHG 73-75 MPH and at times flashes as above average. Fantastic build, clean arm, delivery is solid. At the plate he showed off his power with a long drive over the RCF wall that just kept carrying during the 2nd evening.
