End-of-the-Month Roundup: October

Today is Halloween, which also means it’s the last day of October. We’ll condense this month’s coverage by placing all of October’s most important posts into one place. If you missed anything over the past 31 days, we’ve got you covered. This month featured a busy set of events, the last showcases of 2018. Amidst all of this month’s event analysis, we also broke down August’s GPA Games and Chicagoland Open. Our staff also made a couple big trips this month, one back to Westfield, Ind., for a 14U and 13U tournament featuring a couple Illinois travel programs as well as to Jupiter, Fla., for the prestigious World Wood Bat Championships.

From a national perspective, our Draft HQ team ranked the top-100 prep prospects in the 2019 draft class. Nathan Rode and PBR’s state scouting directors compiled a list of the 2019 talent on the rise, and Shooter Hunt introduced us to some of the top freshmen in the country.

COLLEGE FOCUS

• Prospects like Andrew Peters, Michael Massey, and Drake Fellows earn spots on David Seifert’s Top-150 MLB Draft college board.

• PBR Illinois Scouting Director Drew Locascio was on hand to view JUCO Midwest Region IV’s Unsigned Sophomore Showcase, featuring the area’s top JUCO programs, from Triton, McHenry County, all the way to Madison (Wis.).

• The University of Illinois-Springfield hosted the Midwest JC Classic, attended by Seifert and PBR Arizona Scouting Director Jordon Banfield.

• Our staff was also there when John A. Logan CC hosted its scout day, featuring a handful of next-level prospects, including the aforementioned MLB draft target Peters.

• Seifert also visited St. Louis University to watch their fall ball matchup with Southern Illinois-Edwardsville with plenty of former Illinois prep talent in the lineup.

NATIONAL POV

• The right-handed arm from Fremd, Victor Fujiu, earned a spot on this list of seniors who should get serious looks for a home on the field after graduating.

• Shooter Hunt was in Fort Myers to watch the underclass World Wood Bat Championships where he saw Illinois’ top 2020 prospect Ed Howard, as well as the state’s top 2021 prospect Vytas Valincius.

• Illinois prospects Jason Hodges and Alec Gonzalez were singled out for their work in Jupiter.

• For his work at the WWBA, Hodges’ draft stock is on the rise and was mentioned in Rode’s 2019 risers post.

• Hunt also introduced us to the nation’s top freshmen talents, here and here.

• Three 2023 prospects from the Pro Player Hurricanes were mentioned in the PBR Junior Fall Championships Scout Blog.
