Our weekly Diamond Notes highlights notable players that were nominated by their coaches for Northern and Southern California Player of the Week award for the week of May 17-21. Though not selected as the Player of the Week, they earned this special recognition.

2022 INF/RHP Nicholas Andrews, Justin-Siena HS - Nominated for second straight week, went 7 IP (3 H, 7 K, 0 BB), was perfect through 4.1 IP His second straight shutout and he also scored the only run he needed after a leadoff walk and eventually coming around to score on a sac-fly.
2021 P/INF Luca Bevilaqua, Dougherty Valley HS - On 5/14 vs Dublin HS he went 7 IP (14 K, 2 BB, H) and stroked the game-winning double in the 8th inning to drive in all three runs for the team.
2021 RHP Tommy Brown, Roseville HS - Tossed his first career no-hitter on 5/20 at Inderkum HS (Sacramento), going 7 IP, 5 K, 3 BB, HBP and getting soft contact all game long.
2022 C/OF Isaiah Castillo, Mountain House - Hit .600 (6-for-10) with two 2B, 4 R, and two RBI to help the Mustangs win a series vs WAC-South division leader Central Valley. Castillo is slashing .453/.566/.609 with 10 2B and 26 R this season.
2022 SS/P Cooper Lanz, Buhach Colony HS - In three games went 6-for-9, with 3 2B, 4 RBI, 10 R, 2 SB. Collected W in relief with 1.2 IP (4 K, 0 BB, 0 R). Season line: .477 BA; 20 R; 10 RBI; OPS 1.202; 7-for-7 SB. Buhach Colony clinched their 3rd straight Central California Conference championship and extended their winning streak to 11 games.
2022 3B Davide Migotto, Vintage HS - Team went 2-0 during the week, and he was 4-for-6, 3 BB and 4 R and a double, while playing flawlessly at 3B, including making several key plays in the two game run, highlighted by a backpick at 2nd base to end a threat in the Casa Grande game. He played through an injury and his leadership along with his play helped push his team to the two victories.
2022 Jayden Rivera, Kerman HS - Was 5-for-9 with 2 2B and 3 RBI. He has played a big role for the Lions this season, with multiple injuries on the infield, he’s moved around and done a great job. Currently hitting .308 with 25 RBI in 18 games.
2024 RHP/INF Nate Wedderburn, Monterey HS - On 5/17 vs Carmel HS, went 6 IP (5 R, 7 H, HBP, 8 K) and on 5/21 went 4 IP (0 R, 0 H, 3 BB, 8 K). Came into the one-run game in the 7th inning, trailing 4-3. Then led off the bottom half with a knock and scored the tying run, proceeding to throw 3 more scoreless innings. The 5-foot-10 150-lb freshman is leading the PCAL-Gabilan division in IP (31) and K (45), while posting a sub-2.00 ERA.
‘22 INF/C Gus Swaner - Quartz Hill HS - The uncommitted junior went 6-for-10 scoring 4Rs while driving in 4 RBIs. Three of the six hits were doubles.
‘21 C John Stark - King HS - The Western Oregon commit was 7-for-12 good for a.714 BA that included 3 HR, 2 doubles, 6 RBI, 5 runs scored, 5 BB, For good measure he had two caught stealing behind the dish.
‘21 INF Bryce Gamble - El Dorado HS - The uncommitted power hitting senior was 4-for-7 with 5 RBI, and HR, and 3 runs scored for the Golden Hawks last week.
‘23 C Luke Scherrer - Yucaipa HS - The Cal Poly SLO commit was 4-for-8 with 5 RBI, a triple, two sac bunts, and an HBP as the Thunderbirds went 2-1 on the week.
'21 C/INF Mikey Easter - Arcadia HS - The Hawaii-Pacific Commit had a big four game week for the Apaches going 6-for-9 with 5 runs scored and 8 RBI. The week was highlighted by his 3/3 game vs. Burroughs on Wednesday when he had a 3B, HR and drove in 6.
'21 Brandon Nguyen - Arcadia HS - The uncommitted senior led the Apache offense in the 4 games last week with 7 hits. He was able to score 7 runs while driving in 4 more. His week was highlighted by a big home run in Saturday's game vs. San Dimas
SS/RHP Treye Meadows - Viewpoint HS - The uncommitted infielder/pitcher came into their first game of the week and closed out Winward holding a two-run league striking out two for the save. In the second game Meadows threw a complete game with six strikeouts for the win. The two wins propelled Viewpoint to the postseason for the first time in a decade.
‘22 RHP Jack Ross - Edison HS - The uncommitted junior threw a no-hit shutout with five strikeouts in a huge league game against Fountain Valley.
‘22 P Tucker Fountain - Edison HS - The uncommitted junior threw a complete game allowing one run while striking out seven on just three hits in a 7-1 win.
‘22 RHP/1B Preston Anderson - La Sierra HS - The uncommitted junior threw 6 innings allowing only 3 hits and 2 earned runs in a win over Arlington to clinch a league title. Anderson also went 5-for-9 on the week with two doubles, a triple, and five RBI.
‘21 2B Ruben Cervantes - La Sierra HS - The uncommitted senior went 6-for-10 with two doubles and 4 RBI on the week that included a clutch 2 RBI double with two outs to steal the win and league championship over Arlington HS.
‘22 SS Jake Callahan - West Ranch HS - The uncommitted shortstop collected five hits and a pair of walks for West Ranch in wins over Valencia and Golden Valley last week. On the season Callahan is now hitting .491 with a .603 OBP.
