With the 2019 spring season right around the corner, PBR Ohio is eagerly anticipating bringing the Buckeye state the best high school coverage throughout the entire state. Starting in January, we began releasing team previews for teams across the state, leading into the Preseason All-State Teams as well as the Preseason State Rankings.

2019 Spring Team Preview: Canal Fulton Northwest Indians

2018 Record: 15-13
Conference Record: Principals Athletic Conference 7-5 (2nd)
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 4/3

2019 Team Strengths:

  • Starting Pitching
  • Defense

Coach Outlook: "2019 will be a year of growth and getting some young players up to Varsity Speed. We have some very promising Juniors and Sophomores that with some experience should really drive this team for the next couple years. Northwest should be in contention for a PAC Title and a possible tournament run. We will be led by Senior 3 year starter and OSU Mansfield Commit James Elliott and returning  Senior starter at shortstop Jarod Weigand who is a Walsh’ University signee. Junior 6-4 LHP William Rouse (3-0 in 2018) Junior 6-4 RHP Austin Hunter, Junior RHP Jackson Ogozalek And Sr RHP James Elliott all return to the pitching rotation along with several young arms fighting to add to the depth. Junior Cole Edwards will work primarily as the team closer. He is a hard throwing right handed pitcher who also plays every position on the field. Nick smith returns as the starting second baseman. (Started as a Freshman in 2018)."

  • Nick Smith, Sophomore 5-10/150 Pounds, Returning starter at 2B 
  • Jackson Ogozalek, Junior, 2 year letterman 6-0/190 pounds RHP/3B
  • Corey Kohler, Junior, 2 year letterman 5-11/200 pounds 1B/LHP
