LATHROP, CALIF. - The Third Annual California State Games took place at beautiful Islanders Field in Lathrop where PBR California hosted over 70 of the top under and upperclassmen from around the state. While some were committed prospects, the bulk of the participants were uncommitted prospects hand picked for this exclusive event.
Click here to view Les Lukach 10 highlighted uncommitted players from the California State Games.
The three-day event featured a workout on Friday followed by games on Saturday and Sunday. With just about every facet of the game captured by the scouting staff, it becomes necessary to put pen to paper and write-up each respective player in a scouting report. Following the tools of ignorance are the 7-8-9 position players.

Positional Profile: OF/RHP
Body: 5-10, 160-pounds. Real athletic build. Well proportioned. Broader shoulders. Present lower half strength.
Hit: RHH. Rhythmic swing. Slight bat waggle pulls back into a higher elbow. Smaller lift and stride. Swing is on a more uphill path (50% flyball rate). Consistent feel for barrel with most post impact results being good especially in terms of balls with nice backspin and carry. Pullside approach throughout his round. Pounded a double down the left field line in game action.
Power: 97 max exit velocity. Bat speed is above average for his level at around 69 mph. Some present pullside power. 66.7% hard hit rate during BP is a positive sign.
Arm: RH. OF - 96 mph. Quick loose arm action. Plus arm strength. 5/6 accurate from the OF. Explodes from release with nice carry. Quick to release.
Defense: Real aggressive actions. Comes through hard which gives him good momentum. Gets low to the ball and transitions into throws quickly. Made routine plays in the outfield during game action.
Run: 7.05 runner in the 60.
Marty Kaplan, Harvard-Westlake (CA), 2022
Positional Profile: OF
Body: 6-3, 185-pounds. Long and lanky, some twitch, raw tools, some speed, plenty of room for added strength.
Hit: LHH. Slightly open stance, high hands, quick to the ball, rotates well, some present pop. Blast Motion scores 46/46/61. Average plane and connection show a swing with current plane and alignment ability but development needed. Above-average rotation shows a projectable power efficiency swing that should get better as he develops.
Power: 90 max exit velocity.
Arm: RH. OF - 91 mph. Long arm swing with some speed; interested to see what he could do off the mound.
Defense: Quality showcase showing, best suited for the corner outfield positions but speed enhancement could give him a chance in center field.
Run: 7.14 runner in the 60.
Isaiah Landry, El Cerrito (CA), 2023
Positional Profile: OF/2B
Body: 5-10, 160-pounds. Medium athletic build. Strong lower half. Compact upper body.
Hit: SH. Loose hands in his stance. Not much negative/forward move. Handsy swing that works on a level path and stays in the zone well. Showed good feel for the opposite field in BP. Had 2 hits in Game 1. Included pulling his hands inside a FB for a hit to the 5/6 hole and an LD over the center fielders head that went for an inside the park HR.
Power: 95 max exit velocity. Showed decent blast metrics in his BP round that give signs of potential power. Specifically, max bat speed of 70.2 mph and rotational acceleration max of 20.2 are above average for his age.
Arm: RH. OF - 85 mph. Compact arm action that comes out of a shorter elbow. Four 1 hops and 1 throw was made on the fly. Flashed some decent carry.

Evan McConathy, Piedmont (CA), 2022
Positional Profile: OF/RHP
Body: 6-1, 180-pounds. Proportional frame, some speed throughout, plenty of room for growth and development.

Quality across the board, high rotation score seen with bat speed and hips opening up early and often. Long swing plan keeps him connected longer. Swing development needed for consistent repeatable swings.
Power: 89 max exit velocity.
Arm: RH. OF - 84 mph. Emphasizes lower body to increase outfield velocity, over-the-top release point, accurate to the bag, 5/5.

Whippy and handsy stroke with + bat speed (78 mph max, 73 mph average). More of a level path that creates some natural lift. More of a pullside approach in BP.
Power: 100 max exit velocity. Some pullside HR power is there. Had the farthest HR in BP for the event crushing one 400ft. Combination of +bat speed (73 mph average) and +rotational acceleration (23 gs average) give him a great power ceiling.
Arm: LH. OF - 91 mph. Above average arm strength. Compact arm circle in the back that is quick to release. Present armside tail. Real nice carry. 6/6 accurate.
Defense: Controlled actions. Stutter steps to set up a clean rhythm when fielding. Clean at gloving the ball. Takes extra steps after fielding it to get as much as he can on the throw. Showed good first steps during game action and tracked down some difficult balls.
