Bay Area World Series (CA): Uncmtd 2021 RHPs

Lathrop, CA - Bay Area World Series (est. 2004) has seen its fair share of outstanding players over the years (38 MLB players and over 800 D1 players, including Stephen Piscotty, Marcus Semien, Kris Bubic, Joc Pederson, Mitch Haniger, JD Davis, Max Stassi, etc.) and many are/were committed by the early signing period or much earlier in the process. Its no secret that Northern California is and has long been one of the nation's most fertile regions for talent.

As is the case all over, kids are always getting better, some later bloomers, some are a bit underexposed, even in California. Sometimes it just takes the right eyes on a player to give them that nudge toward colleges looking for one more potentially impact-type talent for their next incoming class. Maybe not necessarily even an impact talent, rather, adding quality depth to an incoming class, which ultimately, can be more important as injuries and attrition take place over a college career.

These uncommitted RHPs all threw in the games portion of BAWS 2020 (September 5-7). Videos from the games are in the editing process, though some have video from a BAWS bullpen or from a previous PBR event. Stats, both traditional mph and now Trackman data are all in the pleyer profiles. The reports are a brief look at the standout qualities for these pitchers.

Bryce Baughman RHP / Placer, CA / 2021 Bay Area World Series 2020 (BAWS) - Uncommitted; Low slot RHP reliever profile for college level to add different look for a pitching staff, pounds zone w/3 pitches (FB/SL/CHG), showed ability to lower his slot even further, low-80s w/projectability for more.

Riley Carlos RHP / American Canyon, CA / 2021 Bay Area World Series 2020 (BAWS) - Uncommitted; Average bodied RHP w/athletic delivery & ability to mix multiple pitches, pounded the zone. Pitched to contact while changing speeds, quick pace/work kept pressure on hitters. FB & SL spin both project quite a bit more velo will come.

Evan Odin RHP / Lincoln, CA / 2021 Bay Area World Series 2020 (BAWS) - Uncommmitted; Later learned he was pitching through some back pain issues; arm action is clean, body is attractive, got the FB up to 85 even at less than 100%, aggressively threw strikes w/all 3 pitches. When healthy he's one to keep an eye on.

Callum Olsen RHP / Palo Alto, CA / 2021 Bay Area World Series 2020 (BAWS) - Uncommitted; Very intriguing outing, FB up to 86, sitting mid-80s w/abv avg movement. Flashed high spin rate on the heater (2512 max), while also putting good spin on the CB. CHG is also quite good. The frame is projectable, as is the raw stuff.

Jacob Peterson RHP / Capital Christian, CA / 2021 Bay Area World Series 2020 (BAWS) - Uncommitted; Lean lithe body, the raw stuff isn't eye-catching at this stage of his development but he is a quality strike thrower with ability to change speeds with a full repertoire. Flashes the spin that suggests as he gets stronger the stuff will jump.

Will Pires RHP / Serra, CA / 2021 Bay Area World Series 2020 (BAWS) - Uncommitted; Long and athletic build projects well beyond HS. The stuff and repertoire is interesting w/ability to manipulate the ball with multiple types of spin and movement patterns. Can cut the FB and showed ability to add and subtract off his FB.

Lucas Ringenberg RHP / Alhambra, CA / 2021 Bay Area World Series 2020 (BAWS) - Uncommitted; Consistently has shown the ability to mix his pitches and change speeds within the zone and elicit soft contact. Understands the craft of pitching. If/when the velocity spikes upward, the 'pitcher' he already is will be greatly enhanced.

Keone Sayers RHP / Soquel, CA / 2021 Bay Area World Series 2020 (BAWS) - Uncommitted; Generally speaking, very tall/young pitchers struggle w/feel for the zone. In this outing Sayers showed there are exceptions to scouting generalities as he pounded the zone, got the FB up to 84 (81-83) w/an easy arm action, mixed in a solid SL (69-73). His improvement from last year shows an impressively positive development trend.

Dylan Simmons RHP / Vanden, CA / 2021 Bay Area World Series 2020 (BAWS) - Uncommitted; Lean bodied, been steadily getting taller/stronger over last few years. Has always shown attacking-strike throwing ability w/fearless approach and now the velo is creeping up as his arm speed has increased. Good stuff still ahead for him.

Joey Van Dusen OF / Chico, CA / 2021 Bay Area World Series 2020 (BAWS) - Uncommitted; Competed as 2-way player w/pitching ceiling/present ability showing stronger. Quick arm, good athlete, spins the FB well which allows for higher projection than the 84 mph he touched. Good athlete who also competed as an OF, the athleticism will serve his raw stuff development well.

CJ Wigren RHP / College Park, CA / 2021 Bay Area World Series 2020 (BAWS) - Uncommitted; It's the size of the fight in the dog... apt phrase here. The stuff won't wow anyone but his feel for the zone, his ability to change speeds, change shapes of pitches, get hitters out IN the zone, all of that showed up in this outing. East Bay 'teammates' quickly were on the top rail rooting him on and that's due to his competitiveness.
