2025 Future Prospect Games: Statistical Analysis
July 20, 2021
On Wednesday, July 7, the PBR Illinois staff traveled to Ozinga Field in Crestwood, IL, to host the 2025 Top Prospect Games. This 2025 invite only event helped sort out the top prospects in the state at an earlier age as well as serving as a last chance identifier for the Junior Future Games at LakePoint in Cartersville, GA, July 29-Aug1.
Shortly after the event's conclusion our scouting staff published a Quick Hits piece, highlighting several standouts from the day. Today, we'll keep rolling out our post-event content with a look at the traditional stats gathered by our staff inside this statistical analysis. As the week rolls on, we'll also analyze data collected via our partners at TrackMan and Blast Motion, so be on the lookout for that.
+ OF Ezra Essex (Marion Catholic, 2025) was one of the top performers at the event. Essex, a right-handed hitting infielder, was the event leader in the 60-yard dash. The 5-foot-7, 140-pounds incoming freshman ran a 6.69, dropping his previous time from earlier this year. Essex recorded a max exit velocity of 87 mph in BP and threw 76 mph from the outfield, too.
+ INF/RHP Jack Wheeler (Morris, 2025) was a standout from all aspects of the game. The 6-foot-3, 165-pound athlete started his workout by reaching a 90 mph max exit velocity during his BP round. Wheeler closed out his showcase portion with an 83 mph across the infield to lead the group. During game play, Wheeler touched 82 mph on his fastball with easy life.
+ OF Henry Murray (Lane Tech, 2025) was amongst the top all-around categorical performers of the day, reaching a top-five mark in several positional categories. He ran a 7.10 in the 60-yard dash and juiced his best batted ball up at 95 mph during his BP round. Defensively, Murray topped at 78 mph from the outfield, too.
+ 2025 Future Prospect Games showcased four pitchers that topped at 80 mph or better with their fastballs. RHP AJ Putty (Huntley, 2025) was a top arm during game play. A 6-foot-3, 200-pound right handed pitcher had the top fastball in the group, reaching 82 mph. Southpaw Jack Bauer (Lincoln-Way East, 2025), the event's lone pitcher-only, reached a 79 mph high with his heater during game action.
