2023 Texas State Games Quick Hits: Uncommitted Upperclass Arms
September 28, 2023
TEXAS - Over the weekend (9/22-9/24), we hosted the second annual PBR TX State Games at TCU & Weatherford College. The weekend kicked off Friday night under the lights at TCU. All position players went through a workout where they ran 60's, threw from their position and finished off the night taking BP. Saturday & Sunday consisted of three games each day where we collected TrackMan data on all pitchers. Today, we take a look at the uncommitted upperclass arms that threw over the weekend.

Uncommitted Upperclass Arms
Degan Kubat RHP / JJ Pearce , TX / 2024The 6’3 205 lb. Sr. took the mound Saturday night and showed a big fastball. He sat 89-92 with good life at the top of the zone. He also showed a slider that he threw in the mid to upper 70’s, and a curveball that was in the low 70’s. He sprinkled in a changeup that had good tumbling action as well. Kubat works exclusively from the stretch. Physical frame, velocity could continue to rise. |
Jack Frankel RHP / RHP / John Paul II, TX / 2024The one time Mississippi State commit took the mound Saturday night and showed a 4 pitch mix with some feel. His fastball topped out at 90.8 and up to 19.3’’ of Horizontal Movement. The slider was in the 79-81 range and maxed out at 2847 rpms. He also threw a high spin mid 70’s curveball that had good depth and also was high spin. He has always had a + change, and it was 80-81 on this night and topped out with 21 in. of horizontal movement. |
Trent Collier LHP / 1B / Walnut Grove, TX / 2024Rankings StateRank: 181 / POS: 17
Collier continued where he left off at the end of the summer. The southpaw from Prosper looked sharp in his outing with a fastball that topped out at 90. There is more to come with the heater, and he compliments it well with his slider. He got a lot of bad swings with that pitch, and can throw it to righties or lefties with a lot of success. A really good night for Collier. |
Alex Caddell RHP / Liberty Christian Argyle , TX / 2024Rankings StateRank: 237 / POS: 73
Caddell was impressive with his 4 pitch mix. The senior from Liberty Christian was up to 90 with his fastball and also threw a mid 80’s cutter that really kept the hitter honest. He mixed in a slider and changeup as well. He showed solid command of the arsenal, and has a durable frame. Caddell will be a great addition to a program. |
Michael Dudolski SS / OF / Whitehouse, TX / 2024Dudolski opened up his recruitment this week, and there is a lot to like with the two way East Texas Talent. On the mound, Dudolski worked in the upper 80’s on the weekend but has been higher. His fastball has some natural cut on it, making it tough square up. He also mixes in a quality slider. Dudolski has won a lot of big games for Whitehouse, and will be a good get for a program. |
Landon Karrh RHP / OF / Frisco, TX / 2024This was my first time seeing Karrh in person, and he was impressive. It is a clean arm stroke from a very projectable 6’2 165 lb. frame. He was up to 87 on this night, but there is a lot more coming. He showed good feel for his breaking ball, having success against both righties and lefties. He killed the spin on his changeup and threw it with good arm action. |
Eoghan Collins RHP / 1B / Concordia Lutheran, TX / 2024Rankings StateRank: 212 / POS: 66
The senior from Houston looked sharp in his outing on Sunday. Collins looked more physical from when I saw him in the spring. Collins topped out at 86 mph on the bump and showed good command of the fastball. He has the ability to go in and out with it. He throws a quality change with the same arm speed as his fastball and a breaking ball in the mid 70’s. There is more velo to come from Collins, and he has a lot of big wins under his belt. Ultimate Competitor. |
Jacob Gilbert RHP / OF / McKinney Boyd, TX / 2025Rankings StateRank: 55 / POS: 15
Gilbert is one of many talented arms in the Jr. Class at Mckinney Boyd. He took the mound Sunday and showed a big fastball that topped out at 91.4 mph. The command isn’t always there yet, but the fastball is real. It also topped out at 19.2’’ of IVM giving it some interesting characteristics. He throws a slider and changeup as well. The slider has swing and miss potential. Gilbert has all the stuff, as the command continues to improve, Gilbert will continue to make a name for himself. |
Tanner Carson 3B / SS / Southlake Carroll, TX / 2025Rankings StateRank: 58 / POS: 4
Carson is a position player first, and a good one at that, but he also has a chance on the mound. The jr. from Southlake topped out at 88 after playing in the field on Saturday. He showed a repeatable delivery and commanded the pitch well. He threw a quality slider that spun north of 2,600 rpms giving him a quality 2 pitch mix. A really good weekend for the talented two way. |
Gabriel Winans RHP / SS / Birdville, TX / 2025Rankings StateRank: 63 / POS: 17
Winans is an athletic RHP from Birdville who is a quality SS as well. He has a very projectable, athletic frame standing at 6’2. He was up to 88 on the night, and it is easy to envision that number continuing to rise. He showed good command with the fastball allowing him to get ahead and then win with the breaking ball. He threw it in the mid 70’s and generated weak contact with it. Winans is a strike thrower who is a good athlete, and I expect a big Jr. campaign from him. |
Ethan Hunt RHP / RHP / Hebron, TX / 2025Rankings StateRank: 73 / POS: 21
Hunt is just one of many talented arms rolling out of Hebron HS right now. The 6’5 Jr. got the rock on day 1 and looked the part. His fastball topped out at 87 with minimal effort and a frame that has plenty of projection left. He threw a sweeperish slider that got some swing and miss and weak contact. He also flashed a changeup that should keep lefties honest. Hunt should see an expanded role this year at Hebron, and he has a chance to really blow up |
Cord Rager 1B / LHP / Maypearl, TX / 2025Rankings StateRank: 46 / POS: 1
Rager probably would win the award for 1st off the bus with his imposing 6’5 225 lb. frame. He has big time pop at the plate, but there is some intrigue on the mound as well. He was up to 87.2 on the day and there is so much more there. He is a little raw with his mechanics, but when it synced up it came out easy. The breaking ball is a little behind, but he dropped some nice ones in for strikes. Rager is definitely one to watch on the mound this spring. |
Dylan Rostron OF / LHP / Cy-Fair, TX / 2025Rankings StateRank: 83 / POS: 15
Rostron is another one who is a hitter as well, but he looked really sharp on the mound this weekend. The Jr. southpaw from Houston threw 2 really clean innings on Sunday. His velocity was up to 85.2 with a loose, repeatable arm action. He had good carry and run on the pitch as well, allowing the fastball to play up. He threw a quality breaker in the low 70’s, that he could really spin. He also showed the ability to kill the spin on his changeup that came out of the hand just like his fastball. A really good showing for Rostron on the bump. |
Matthew McCullough RHP / 1B / Pottsboro , TX / 2025Rankings StateRank: 70 / POS: 20
One of the arms that really won this weekend was McCullough. The 6’7’’ righty from Pottsboro took the mound on Saturday night, and looked the part of a future weekend starter. The fastball was up to 90+, but it is easy to dream on what it is going to become. His breaker was inconsistent, but the shape and arm speed were there. When it synced up properly, he threw some quality ones. McCullough is far from what he is going to be, but what we saw Saturday night is already pretty impressive.
