2021 Future Games - Recap (G1 vs Arizona)
July 30, 2021
The Pacific Northwest had a difficult time stringing hits together in the opening game vs. Arizona, scoring only 1 run in the bottom of the 2nd with a 2 out single by ‘24 INF Brayden Hibler (Westfield HS, IN) to score ‘23 SS Hunter Snyder (Lake Central HS, IN). After getting on the board, the offense was stifled by power arm ‘23 RHP Will Shelor (Hamilton HS, AZ) who topped out at 91mph and was consistently 88-90 with his FB.

Athletic LH swing with depth and bat speed. Strokes a single up the middle here. Also lined out to RF (98 mph EV) in final AB@HunterSnyds | @ShooterHunt#PBRFuturesGames pic.twitter.com/LoY5W4yHgm
‘24 INF Adam Alharbi (Cedar Park Christian) was a standout at the plate with 2 well hit balls, one splitting the gap in left center for a double in the 4th inning. Unfortunately the offense couldn’t capitalize & Alharbi was stranded to end the inning. This was a constant theme for the remainder of the game as runners got on-base in the 5th, 6th and 7th but couldn’t come around to score.

Showed good bat-to-ball skills against velocity yesterday & consistently competes in the box @Adam57719183 @prepbaseball | #PBRFuturesGames pic.twitter.com/Zmq6iL4MXq
PNW made things interesting in the bottom of the 7th though, ‘24 C Nathan Woodside (Woodinville) singled hard up the middle to begin the inning. Then Alharbi put another good swing on the ball, driving it up the middle but was robbed of a potential double on a diving catch by the Arizona CF. Then down to the final out, ‘23 Hunter Syder (Lake Central, IN) put a terrific swing on the ball and hit an absolute missile that was 98 mph off the bat but it ended up going straight at the RF’er for the final out of the game.

While it was a tough game offensively, the pitching staff and defense did enough to hold a potent Arizona offense to only 1 unearned run across 7 full innings. ‘23 RHP Buddy Brands (Tigard) started the game on the bump & found some extra juice in the Georgia heat that we haven't seen out of him before, sitting 87 with his FB and reaching back for 88 a few times. Brands offers an intimidating presence on the mound at 6’2, 200 pounds with a starter profile. Also commanded a tight slider/cutter at 79-80 and used an occasional slurve-shaped breaker at 70-71. He’ll get another inning on Sat. vs Team California.

2 innings, 4 K, 1 H, 1 unearned run
Popped 88. Pitched 85-87 with command. Tight cutter at 79-80. Slurve at 71@ShooterHunt | @prepbaseball #PBRFutureGames pic.twitter.com/crwQjdcQ4I
Following Buddy was ‘23 LHP Miles Gostola (West Seattle). The pitchability lefty worked his FB at 82-83 and paired it with a downer CB that shows plenty of shape through the zone. Gosztola is another big body on the mound with an athletic build and more upside in the arm for him to tap into.

Pitched a scoreless 3rd, working mostly 83 with the FB and landing downer CB for strikes

‘23 RHP Terry Hayes Jr. (Liberty) handled the 4th and 5th innings, tossing 2 scoreless. Hayes, who also can handle INF duties, shows plenty of athleticism as a player & his body control/actions translate well to the mound. Standing at 6’3, 175 and currently sitting at 83 to 85 with his FB, he has all the tools to be an exciting arm and we saw a glimpse of that in this first game.

6’3, 175 with a very lean build and lengthy frame.
3 pitch mix with FB at 83-85. CB 69-72 & CH 74-76

For the 6th, ‘23 LHP/1B Luke Sketchley (Chief Sealth) grabbed the ball and continued to put up zeroes. Again, another big bodied arm at 6’3, 260, Sketchley made quick work of hitters in his brief appearance. Ran the FB up to 84 and expanded the zone with his CB at 70-72 when ahead in the count. He’ll bounce back for another inning on Sat. vs Team California.
‘23 RHP Brady Foster (O’Dea) closed things out for PNW and took a big step forward as a prospect with his appearance. The 6’4 right flashed arm talent earlier this summer and is starting to add more polish and aptitude on the mound as he gets more reps. He reached back for 90 in his inning and worked 87-89. Didn’t need the CB often but showed a solid 11/5 breaker at 70-73. Foster will start Game 3 vs California on Saturday.
