We would like to thank all who participated in PBR Ontario's 2018 New Year Open this past week. This was a great opportunity for 2018-2021 prospects to be put on college radars. Many players impressed during their individual workouts at the showcase.

Ontario Insider: 2018 New Year Open - Quick Hits
Our first event of 2018 saw nearly 100 players from the 2018 - 2021 class come out and showcase their tools at Fieldhouse Athletics in Burlington as they were put through your typical showcase format with 60’s, exit velocity, and offensive and defensive evaluations. With many fantastic performances and measurables, it is hard to give such a short list at the moment but we take a look below at some of the standouts from our New Year Open. If this was any sign of things to come, players have definitely been working hard this winter and it looks to be a promising year in Ontario.
We highlight some of the top bats, arms, and defensive standouts below with more articles and notes to come in the following days.
THE ARMS
A lot big winners on the day, and we start with the young pup in 2020 left-hander Ben Adams (Ottawa Canadians). The 6-foot-1 Adams worked out as an outfielder and on the mound, and the mound is what looks to be his calling. The arm worked with looseness and whip out front with signs of strength and athleticism in the delivery. Fastball sat in the 82-84 range while he showed feel with the secondary stuff and was able to spin his curveball with 1/7 shape and downward action. Two uncommitted standouts from the 2018 class was right-handers Quin McLane (Ontario Yankees) and Malkolm Barrett (Ontario Royals). McLane, a 6-foot-4, 196-pounder, worked with downhill angle and a heavy fastball that showed arm-side run at 84-85 while Barrett was up to 86 mph with a loose, easy, ¾ arm action. Both features a slider that had some tilt and are two arms that shouldn’t stay uncommitted for long.
