We would like to thank all who participated in PBR Alberta's 2018 Calgary College Prospect Showcase this past week. This was a great opportunity for 2018-2021 prospects to be put on college radars. Many players impressed during their individual workouts at the showcase. Below we have the complete statistical results from the event as well as the top performers across various different categories.
In the coming weeks, we will be adding and updating profiles for each of the players in attendance, including complete analysis and video.

Alberta Insider: 2018 Calgary College Prospect Showcase - Sneak Peek
Our first event of 2018 took place in Calgary this past weekend where 60 players were in attendance with some familiar faces from our inaugural event along with several new players to get excited about. Participants were taken through an indoor workout at the Coyote Den Training Center including; 40’s, defensive evaluations, batting practice, exit velocity and bullpens. There was definitely no shortage of talent in Calgary with impressive and uncommitted 2018 grads, a solid group of catchers, and young 2020 and 2021 prospects to get excited about for the future.
PBR Alberta would like to thank all of the players who participated and we will now take a look at a few of the young prospects who stood out this past Saturday.
The Arms

Chas Wheatley RHP / Strathcona, AB / 2020An early stand out during the bullpens sessions was 2020 right-hander Chas Wheatley (Prospects Academy). Listed at 6-foot-6, 180-pounds, Wheatley immediately stood out amongst his group of peers. He showed a very loose and long delivery working his fastball up to 84 with late run. Good action and arm speed on off-speed pitches while still developing feel, a massive ceiling for the 2020 grad as he continues to develop physically and fine tune his mechanics. |

Jared Caldwell RHP / SS / Bishop Grandin, AB / 2018Uncommitted 2018 right-hander Jared Caldwell (Babe Ruth) finished the day off and was well worth the wait. Caldwell sat 82-84 with a very clean arm path, quick actions and good feel for what he is doing on the mound. At 6-foot-4, 175-pounds, the Calgary product still has a ton of room to add bulk and strength to his current frame. |

Zachary Olson 1B / RHP / Notre Dame Red Deer, AB / 2018Another exciting pitcher at 6-foot-4, 210-pounds rounds out our list, Zach Olson (Red Deer Braves). The right-hander is big, powerful, and raw. Mechanics were effortless, stays tall through delivery with slight recoil at finish. |
The Bats

Ayden Makarus C / 3B / WH Croxford, AB / 20192019 LSU-Eunice commit Ayden Makarus (Okotoks Dawgs) impressed again at the dish, raw power to all parts of the field, explosive hands and lower half with a bat path that stays level through the hitting zone. The Okotoks product looked ready for in-game at bats in January. |

Zachary Olson 1B / RHP / Notre Dame Red Deer, AB / 2018Zach Olson (Red Deer Braves) who was a standout during the bullpens put together one of the better rounds of batting practice when it was his turn to hit. Olson has a pure swing and natural strength, he will be scary if he can learn to utilize his lower half. He put up the second highest exit velocity of the day and the swing is mostly all arms at this point. |

Skylar Braun C / Lethbridge collegiate, AB / 2019Another 2019 catching prospect, Skyler Braun (Prairie Baseball Academy) was all business during his batting practice. Good rhythm and timing with his load, balanced when transferring his weight and has intent to do damage with every swing. |
The Gloves

Dirk Eymundson C / RHP / St. Francis Xavier, AB / 2018Rankings StateRank: 12 / POS: 3
Defensively, it was the talented group of catchers that led the way in Calgary starting with uncommitted 2018 grad Dirk Eymundson (Parkland Twins) who improved on his 1.94 he put up in Lethbridge, posting the best pop time of the day at 1.91. Catch and throw is quick and explosive, strong arm, good direction and use of lower half. |

Rayce Wilkinson SS / 2B / Dr. Ep Scarlett, AB / 2018Rankings StateRank: 28 / POS: 6
Another uncommitted 2018 grad in our rankings is Rayce Wilkinson (Junior Dinos), one of the top infielders who came out, he has gained arm strength since we last saw him and looked confident making plays to both sides. Athletic movements, quick hands and a great first step. |

Justin Breen 3B / 2B / Father Mercredi, AB / 2019Rounding out our defensive standouts is one of the top prospects in the Province, 2019 grad Justin Breen (Fort McMurray). Breen looked like he has slimmed out a bit, adding muscle and athleticism, posting the top infield velocity at 83 mph. Breen knows who he is and plays to his strengths very well. Understanding angles and proper footwork, he puts himself in a good position to make routine plays and possess’ the tools to make the difficult plays. |
