The 2016 Thanksgiving Review took place Saturday, November 19th at Keystone State Baseball Academy in Manheim, PA with nearly prospects from four classes displaying their skills. Today we begin our analysis of all prospects in attendance by reviewing those players who participated from the Class of 2017 and 2018.
- FINAL MEASURABLES for all prospects in attendance
CLASS OF 2017
Dakota George, OF, Pleasant Valley
5-foot-11, 140-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. The uncommitted senior's hands work well through contact and he displayed a solid feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. George displayed a line drive approach at the plate with an ability to square the baseball to all fields. He showed athletic defensive actions with straight line carry on throws of 81 mph to home plate. He showcased 7.00 foot speed and the ability to play through the baseball.
CLASS OF 2018
Anthony Kahley, C/1B, West York
6-foot, 165-pound backstop flashed the top pop times of the day at 2.08-2.15 on throws of 76 mph from the crouch. The junior showcased a clean transition, quick feet and solid carry to his throws. Kahley displayed his athleticism by running a 6.93 60-yard dash. The right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. An arm-bar leads to some length in his swing but a solid hip turn leads to some present power to the pull side with a bat exit velocity of 80 mph.
Nathan Loser, OF, Manheim Central
5-foot-11, 170-pounder continues to show progress in his overall game. The junior posted the top 60-yard dash time of the day at 6.67 and displayed improving defensive techniques with good carry on throws of 82 mph to home plate. The right-handed hitter uses a lift-and-replace stride from a slightly open stance to initiate his swing. A short swing path and above average hip turn allow Loser to create an 86 mph bat exit velocity.
Jordan Mansberger, C, Southern Huntingdon County
5-foot-9, 165-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance with a high-hands load and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. A tendency to drop his hands during the load phase of his swing leads to some barrel drag through the hitting zone. Mansberger showcased a bat exit velocity of 74 mph, a number that would be improved with greater incorporation of his lower half. The junior ran a 7.50 60-yard dash and displayed pop times of 2.30-2.40 on throws of 69 mph from the crouch.
Paul Zappala, OF/1B, Garnet Valley
6-foot-2, 190-pounder showcased the top skill set of all prospects in attendance. The junior ran a 7.15 60-yard dash and displayed athletic defensive actions with 81 mph arm strength to home plate. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a short stride to initiate his swing from a high hands load. Zappala displayed good balance throughout his swing with above average barrel whip (87 mph) and some present power to the pull side. His hands work well through contact and hits off a stiff front side creating some backspin in the process.
