Team Pennsylvania Future Games Spotlight: Right-handed Pitchers
July 26, 2015
By Greg Williams
Pennsylvania Director of Scouting
On July 30th through August 1st, PBR Pennsylvania will take a select team of players in the Classes of 2017 and 2018 to represent Pennsylvania at the PBR Future Games in Indianapolis at Grand Park.
Players receive exposure unlike any other event for underclassmen. Last year, 100+ colleges from all over the country were in attendance, including coaches from every Division I power conference in the country. Only players who have a legitimate shot at being a Division I recruit and who have an interest in the possibility of making a verbal commitment during their sophomore or junior seasons have been considered.

Team Pennsylvania Spotlight: Scott Leitholf, Rhp
Name: Scott Leitholf
Position: RHP
Class: 2017
State Ranking: 27
Height/Weight: 6-foot-5, 170-pounds
High School: Northern York
Summer Team(s): Harrisburg Jr. Senators
Pitching Rotation: Game #3 (7/31) - Innings 1-3
Most Recent Showcase/In-Game Performance:
Date: 6/17/15
Scouting Report: Long and lanky XL-frame (6-foot-4, 165-pounds) with lots of room for strength gains. Pitched out of a high three-quarter slot with solid landing at front foot strike. Located fastball well down/away vs right-handed hitters at 83-85. Has more in the tank when he learns to work over his front side instead of around it. Curveball had big 11/5 break at 66-68, while he is still developing feel for his change-up at 69-70.
Team Pennsylvania Spotlight: Cade Negley, Rhp/IF
Name: Cade Negley
Position: RHP/IF
Class: 2017
State Ranking: 15
Height/Weight: 6-foot-1, 185-pounds
High School: Butler Area
Summer Team(s): Indiana Prospects
Pitching Rotation: Game #1 (8/1) - Innings 4-6
Most Recent Showcase/In-Game Performance:
Date: 5/8/15
Scouting Report: 6-foot-1, 185-pound primary pitcher. Projectable right-hander was the most impressive arm of the day among the 32 pitchers in attendance. Sat 85-86 from a high 3/4 arm slot with some hip coil to his delivery and solid lower half actions. 73 mph curveball showed hard biting 11/5 rotation capable of being an out pitch at the next level. 73 mph changeup was thrown at fastball arm speed and displayed some late sink. Right-handed hitter starts from a square stance with a high hands load and a short, lift and replace stride. Good rhythm to swing with direct swing path creates an 88 mph bat exit velocity. Negley's physical size and 7.50 foot speed will likely find him making a slide to 3B in near future. Soft glove hand and 79 mph arm make him a legitimate two-way prospect moving forward.
Team Pennsylvania Spotlight: Kyle Virbitsky, Rhp/IF
Name: Kyle Virbitsky
Position: RHP/IF
Class: 2017
State Ranking: 18
Height/Weight: 6-foot-4, 200-pounds
High School: Episcopal Academy
Summer Team(s): Philly Bandits
Pitching Rotation: Game #3 (7/31) - Inning 7
Game #9 (7/31) - Inning 7
Most Recent Showcase/In-Game Performance:
Date: 4/21/15
Scouting Report: Looks every bit the 6-foot-4, 200-pounds at which we have him listed. Pitches from an over-the-top slot and has arm speed out front. Works fast. FB sat 84-85 in the first inning, 82-83 in the 2nd. Lived too much at the belt this day, but certainly has the size to get downhill. Very good feel for his CB at 72-73 that got a bunch of swings-and-misses. Showed some poise after giving up a HR to a UConn-bound bat when he got right back on the mound and threw a hellacious first-pitch change-up with attacking mindset to the next hitter. Quick feet on pickoffs.
Team Pennsylvania Spotlight: bryce cunningham, IF/RHP
Name: Bryce Cunningham
Position: IF/RHP
Class: 2018
Height/Weight: 5-foot-11, 170-pounds
High School: Springside Chestnut Hill
Summer Team(s): Tri-State Arsenal
Pitching Rotation: Game #1 (8/1) - Inning 7
Most Recent Showcase/In-Game Performance:
Date: 2/5/15
Scouting Report: Cunningham appears more physically mature than his 5-foot-11, 170-pound listing suggests. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts with a open stance and strides to square. He hangs in the air with his stride, occasionally causing him to be late getting his foot down. However, when he's on time and his hands don't leak forward, his bat speed (92-mph exit velo) and strength have the ball jumping off his barrel. While his physical development will likely determine whether or not he outgrows shortstop and has to make the move over to the hot corner, Cunningham moves well and shows good hands in the field, while already having enough arm (85-mph) to play on the left side. He also ran a 7.26 60-yard dash.
