Penn State and head coach Rob Cooper have announced the signing of five players to National Letters of Intent, including three standouts from Pennsylvania. The Nittany Lions went 18-30 in 2015, including a 6-16 mark in the Big 10 Conference. Penn State will look to build momentum from last year's 13-7 home record.
2016 PA/WV EARLY COMMITS
Dante Biasi, LHP/1B/OF, Hazleton Area (PA)
PBR Rank: #8 in PA, #177 in PBR combined Class of 2016 rankings
PBR Notes: Biasi is a 6-foot, 195-pound two-way prospect that will likely be given an opportunity to swing the bat early in his career. The lefty sits in the upper 80s while topping in the low 90s. The 2014 Wyoming Valley Conference MVP has a solid feel for his 78 mph changeup and has added 25 pounds to his frame in the past two years. Biasi comes off a junior season where he went 3-1 with a 1.28 ERA for Hazleton Area.
Logan Goodnight, SS, The Linsly School (WV)
PBR Rank: #2 in WV, #195 in PBR combined Class of 2016 rankings
PBR Notes: Goodnight is a 6-2, 190-pound right-handed hitter that broke onto the varsity scene with a .371 average in 2013. He has been selected to the WWBA All-Tournament Team three times. Goodnight has also been selected to participate in the PG Underclass All-American Games in San Diego, in the USA Baseball NTIS in Cary, NC and also as part of the Mid-Atlantic / Capital Team that played against the TaiPei China 18U National Team in a two game exhibition series during his high school career. He hit .458 with 7 doubles, a triple, two home runs and 25 RBI as a junior in 2015. Goodnight stole 23 bases in 23 attempts and was named the OVAC 3A Player of the Year.
Myles Gayman, RHP, Greencastle-Antrim (PA)
PBR Rank: #11 in PA. #269 in PBR combined Class of 2016 rankings
PBR Notes: Gayman is a 6-foot-3, 170-pound righty that broke onto the high school scene as a freshman going 7-2 with a 2.94 ERA and 37 K in 49 IP. His breakout performance garnered him 1st-team all-star honors in the Mid-Penn Colonial Conference (the only freshman in any Mid-Penn division to earn 1st-team honors). Gayman sits in the upper 80s and commands an upper 70s breaking ball with tight 11/5 rotation.
Mason Nadeau, OF, North Penn (PA)
PBR Rank: #64 in PA
PBR Notes: Nadeau is a left-handed hitting outfielder with game changing foot speed. He consistently gets down the line with 4.10-4.15 readings. Nadeau shows balance throughout his swing with a flat bat path and the willingness to use all fields. A three year starter for North Penn, Nadeau has been a part of two AAAA state title teams already in his high school career.
REMAINDER OF THE CLASS
Cole Bartels, RHP, Belmont (MA)
PBR Rank: #24 in New England
