PBR Limited Series Review: Top Middle Infield Prospects
July 5, 2019
The inaugural PBR Limited Series tournament took place June 28-30 with eight teams participating in a round robin format over the course of three days at McGill Field on the campus of Lebanon Valley College. The field was comprised of four 15U teams and four 16U teams hailing from three states.
Today we continue a review of the teams in attendance with a look at some of the top middle infield prospects over the course of the three days.
Brayden D'Amico SS / 2B / Liberty, PA / 20215-foot-10, 150-pound switch-hitter showcased solid top of the order offensive skills with a short, line drive approach from both sides of the plate. It was in the field that D'Amico shined, making play after play look routine with solid footwork and arm strength. He routinely plays through the baseball and takes good routes to the ball. Though slightly undersized, D'Amico has the arm strength to remain on the left side of the infield at the next level. |
Ryan WeingartnerSS / st. augustine prep, nj / 20225-foot-9, 145-pounder showcased a well-rounded skill set with a very productive weekend at the plate. The right-handed hitter went 4-for-8 with a double, triple and a pair of RBI. Adding in two walks and a pair of hit by pitches, Weingartner reached base eight times in 12 official plate appearances. Defensively he showcased more than enough arm strength to remain on the left side of the infield. With the exception of one hard hit ball that caught him between hops, he made every play over three games. Showed good range and active feet with above average carry on his throws. |
Gage BibeySS / RHP / Philip Barbour, wv / 20216-foot, 170-pounder lists himself as a primary pitcher, but was most impressive as a position player on this weekend. He showcased the ability to make the routine play consistently and flashed solid range while making plays on the move. The right-handed hitter went 4-for-5 with a double and three runs scored over three games. He also showcased his two-way skills by topping at 80 mph off the bump. |
Alex Ruiz SS / 2B / McCaskey, PA / 20225-foot-8, 155-pounder showcased advanced defensive abilities with active feet and a soft glove hand. Ruiz works hard with his feet to set himself up for good hops and showed a solid internal clock with enough arm strength to stay on the left side. The right-handed hitter has a simple, direct swing path with a line drive approach. A tendency to be pull happy takes him off the outer half at times. Solid runner has proportional strength that should continue to develop over time. |
tim dickinsonSS / 2B / Garnet Valley, PA / 20225-foot-10, 160-pound left-handed hitter showcased top of the order offensive skills with an ability to find his way on base routinely. Dickinson went 3-for-7 with a triple and drove in three runs on the weekend. The underclassmen also flashed his plate discipline with three walks and a hit by pitch to go along with scoring four times. A fundamentally sound defender, Dickinson's all-around skill set will continue to develop with strength gains through maturity. |
