Initial 2019 Overall Rankings Released

By Sean Duncan
Executive Director

It is still extremely early, perhaps even premature, to be forecasting Class of 2019 prospects, especially since many of these freshmen haven’t even played a varsity game. Then again, with the recent acceleration of recruiting, high-level 2019 prospects are already making verbal commitments.

With that said, we have released our initial 2019 rankings, a modest list of 50 prospects that have stood out among their peers. Certainly this list will change and evolve in time, as we know many players will grow, develop and mature. We also know that we likely haven’t seen many other 2019 prospects that may be deserving of this list.

However, we are confident that the players included in the list have extremely bright futures, barring injuries, of course. In fact, 14 of the Top 50 freshmen are already verbally committed, with many more sitting on multiple offers.

It is important to note that the PBR overall rankings only reflect the states that we intimately cover from our boots-on-the-ground scouting staff. The initial Top 50 Class of 2019 rankings is comprised of our current 30-state coverage area.

The unequivocal No. 1 prospect in the 2019 class is 3B/RHP Triston Casas (American Heritage HS, FL), who has been turning heads since last summer with his size and tools. At 6-foot-4, 238 pounds, Casas looks like a senior on the field and has proven himself worthy of playing with seniors at some of the top events. He possesses an easy lefty stroke with plus power for his age and he has plus arm strength. On the mound, Casas has already been up to 91 mph and only looks to improve with strength and maturity.

Casas is one of three Miami recruits in the top 10, joining RHP Matt Allan (Seminole HS, FL) and C/OF Jake Holland (Archbishop McCarthy HS, FL).

Vanderbilt has already netted four Top 50 prospects, including two in the top 10 with left-handed hitting OF Troy LaNeve (Pine-Richland HS, PA) and RHP/SS Chris McElvain (Summit HS, TN). In all, Vanderbilt has seven freshmen commitments across the country.

An Ontario prospect makes his highest Prep Baseball Report ranking debut in history, with SS Jaden Brown (St. Marcellinus SS, ON) checking in at No. 2. Brown is a high-ceiling prospect with advanced bat speed and premium tools.
