Fall Kickoff Showcase Analysis: Class of 2022

The Fall Kickoff Showcase took place on August 15th at historic Cooper Park on the campus of Millersville University. Today we begin a series of articles analyzing the prospects in attendance with a look at those players that participated from the Class of 2022.

Class of 2022 Prospects (in alphabetical order)
Tyler Nercessian, DeMatha HS (MD), SS/RHP
5-foot-9, 150-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a short leg-hang stride. Displayed a flat barrel path through the zone with a line drive approach working the middle of the field routinely. Registered a bat exit velocity of 74 mph and ran a 7.57 60-yard dash. Showcased athletic defensive actions with accurate 78 mph arm strength across the diamond. The righty sat 78-79 from a high 3/4 arm slot on the mound with some hip coil to his delivery. Also showed a curveball with 11/5 rotation at 62-65 with good arm speed and a changeup at 59-61 at a slower arm speed. Displayed solid command of all three pitches.
Derrick Shields, Mount Lebanon HS, 3B/RHP
5-foot-8, 145-pound right-handed hitter starts from a narrow, square stance and utilizes a short, lift-and-replace stride to begin his swing. Initiates hands from a high hands load and showed a line drive approach. Registered a bat exit velocity of 80 mph and ran a 7.89 60-yard dash. Displayed developing defensive skills with accurate 75 mph arm strength across the diamond. The righty stood out with solid command of a four pitch mix on the mound. Fastball sat 76-78 out of a high 3/4 arm slot with a fluid, loose arm action. Curveball at 62-65 showed 11/5 rotation while slider at 65-67 had shorter, later break. Changeup is a quality offering at 68-70 with late, arm-side fade.
Jackson Snyder, West Chester Henderson HS, RHP/3B
5-foot-11, 140-pound primary pitcher impressed with a balanced, athletic delivery with a loose arm action. Fastball sat 79-81 out of a high 3/4 arm slot. Curveball at 68-70 showed sharp, late biting action and has a chance to be an above average pitch. Changeup is also advanced at 72-74 with arm-side run and some sink. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a short lift-and-replace stride. Used the middle of the field well with a line drive approach. Registered a bat exit velocity of 72 mph and ran a 7.64 60-yard dash. Showed solid defensive actions with active feet and accurate 78 mph arm strength across the diamond.
Andrew Sokol, Belle Vernon Area HS, LHP/OF
5-foot-9, 155-pound primary pitcher showcased good rhythm and balance throughout his delivery, beginning with an overhead rocker into a high 3/4 arm slot. Fastball sat 75-78 and curveball showed consistent 1/7 shape at 62-64. Also commanded a slider with shorter, tighter break at 65-67. The left-handed hitter took a solid round of batting practice starting from a square stance and utilizing a short, lift-and-replace stride to begin. Showed good balance and a strong lower half with a flat barrel path through the zone. Registered a bat exit velocity of 81 mph and ran a 7.57 60-yard dash. Played through the baseball routinely and showcased solid carry on throws of 78 mph from the outfield.
