Fall Kickoff Showcase Analysis: Class of 2021 & 2022

The Fall Kickoff Showcase on August 16th officially marked the beginning of the fall schedule of PBR events in Pennsylvania. Today we begin a series of articles analyzing those prospects in attendance by taking a look at those prospects in the Class of 2021 and 2022.

TOP PROSPECTs
Spencer Butz, 2021, SS/RHP, York Suburban HS (PA)
5-foot-9, 155-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a short leg hang stride. Displayed an above average feel for the barrel during a solid round of batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 83 mph. Ran a 6.87 60-yard dash and flashed above average 81 mph arm strength across the diamond. Two-way prospect sat 77-81 on the mound with some arm-side run to his 2-seam fastball. Curveball showed tight 11/5 rotation at 63-65 and a feel for his changeup at 70-72 thrown with near fastball arm speed. Potential to add strenth to his athletic frame and a well rounded skill set make Butz a solid follow in this class.
Kyle Musser, 2021, OF, Manheim Township HS (PA)
5-foot-10, 155-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Showcased an advanced feel for the barrel while making consistent hard contact during his round of batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. Showed athletic actions defensively while consistently playing through the baseball. Registered 78 mph arm strength to home plate and ran a 6.97 60-yard dash. Above average skill set will continue to improve with strength gains and through physical maturity. Definite follow in this class.

William Baeder, 2022, RHP, Spring-Ford HS (PA)
6-foot, 140-pound right-handed pitcher sat 71-74 out of a high 3/4 arm slot working solely from the stretch. Also showcased a slider at 62-64 and a changeup thrown at near fastball arm speed at 67-69. Delivery is balanced and repeatable while a bit rudimentary. Showcased command of of all three pitches.
Shane Devereux, 2021, SS/RHP, Malvern Prep (PA)
5-foot-11, 155-pound primary infielder showcased active feet while playing through the baseball with accurate 77 mph arm strength across the diamond. The left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and uses a toe-tap stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a direct swing path and a solid feel for the barrel in batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 78 mph. Barreled the baseball in several in-game at bats during tournament play and showed good plate discipline drawing three walks. Worked two innings on the mound in game action sitting 75-77 out of a high 3/4 arm slot. Also showed a curveball at 66-67 with 11/5 shape.
Kyle Gartner, 2021, C/RHP, Conestoga HS (PA)
6-foot-1, 210-pound two-way prospect. Right-handed hitter starts from a wide stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Showed a flat barrel path through the zone with a bat exit velocity of 83 mph. Showcased pop times of 2.21-2.28 on throws of 73 mph from the crouch. Sat 74-78 on the mound out of a 3/4 arm slot working solely out of the stretch. Showcased a 4-seam and 2-seam fastball with similar velocity and action.
Alex Hlivia, 2021, 2B/SS, State College Area HS (PA)
5-foot-5, 130-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a short leg-hang stride. Displayed solid feel for the barrel with a line drive approach in batting practice with a 76 mph bat exit velocity. Ran a 7.69 60-yard dash and showcased sound defensive skills with accurate 76 mph arm strength across the diamond.
Ian Korn, 2021, RHP/SS, York Suburban HS (PA)
5-foot-10, 165-pound primary pitcher sat 79-82 from a high 3/4 arm slot initiating his delivery with a side-rocker step. Showcased 4-seam and 2-seam delivery on his fastball and on his changeup at 70-72. Cutter at 66-69 displayed late sink. The right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and utilizes a leg-hang stride to initiate his swing. Showcased developing defensive skills as a middle infielder with accurate 77 mph arm strength across the diamond.
Zach Smith, 2021, SS/RHP, The Perkiomen School (PA)
5-foot-9, 165-pound two-way prospect. Right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Showcased a direct swing path with a line-drive approach in batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 86 mph. Ran a 7.41 60-yard dash and displayed athletic defensive actions with accurate 79 mph arm strength across the diamond. Worked out of a 3/4 arm slot in game action sitting 72-73 initiating his delivery with a side-rocker step. Also showcased a curveball with 11/5 rotation at 63-65.
Alex Tidmore, 2021, C, Blue Mountain HS (PA)
6-foot-1, 230-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a leg-hang stride. Showcased a strong lower half and significant barrel whip with some present pull side power. Registered a bat exit velocity of 86 mph during one of the top rounds of batting practice on the day. Showed pop times of 2.20-2.26 on throws of 72 mph from the crouch. Interesting bat to follow in this class with the potential for future middle of the order power.
Ryan Wootten, 2022, 3B/RHP, Garnet Valley HS (PA)
6-foot-1, 160-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a heel-raise stride. Arm-bar action leads to some barrel drag with a bat exit velocity of 84 mph. Showcased developing defensive skills with sound fundamentals and accurate 69 mph arm strength across the diamond. Sat 69-71 from a 3/4 arm slot initiating his delivery with a side-rocker step. Some hip coil adds some deception. Also displayed a curveball at 63-64 with 10/4 rotation and a changeup with some sink at 64-65.
Alex Yucha, 2021, OF/RHP, Conestoga HS (PA)
6-foot, 150-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a line drive approach at the plate with a bat exit velocity of 79 mph. Showcased athletic actions defensively while routinely playing through the baseball. Stays behind the baseball well and showed accurate 80 mph arm strength to home plate. Ran a 7.25 60-yard dash. Sat 78-80 from a 3/4 arm slot off the mound. Curveball at 67/68 and slider at 65-66 both show 10/4 slider rotation. Showcased tendency to drop elbow and slow arm speed on changeup at 58-62.
Mason Yerger, 2021, 1B, Muhlenberg HS (PA)
6-foot-1, 230-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a heel-raise stride. Showcased an above average feel for the barrel during a solid round of batting practice with an 86 mph bat exit velocity. Displayed a soft glove hand and active feet at first base with accurate 71 mph arm strength across the diamond.
