Earlier this week, we highlighted uncommitted prospects in the senior class with the best tools across various categories. Two days ago, we began the same exercise for the junior class, and we continue today with outfielders.
Best Hitting Prospect: Dominic Bucko (Knoch) & Curtis Robison (Northern York)
Bucko is an athletic switch-hitter with gap power from both sides of the plate. He stands at 5-foot-11, 175 pounds and is more advanced from the left side, where he exhibits good pre-swing rhythm and quality bat speed (91-mph exit velocity). He served the offensive catalyst for the 2015 PIAA Class AAA state champion Knights. Bucko also has the foot speed and arm strength (88-mph) to handle all three outfield positions.
Robison is currently listed as a primary left-handed pitcher, but he can handle the bat as well (.455 average, seven walks plus hit-by-pitches vs four strikeouts as a sophomore). At the 2015 Top Prospect Games, the left-handed hitter showcased an athletic swing and feel for the barrel, smoking an opposite field single against an 87-mph fastball. Robison also picked up a pair of hits while representing Team PA at the 2015 PBR Future Games. He has gap power (86-mph exit velocity) and room to continue to add strength to his 6-foot-1, 195-pound frame.
Best Power Prospect: John Servello (Hollidaysburg Area)
At multiple events this summer, Servello displayed an explosive lower half, short path to the ball, and some ability to get it airborne with an exit velocity of 88-mph. The right-handed hitter is a good athlete (6.94 60-yard dash) with a physical 6-foot, 195-pound build who has also run his fastball up to 87-mph on the mound.
Best Defensive Prospect: Michael Geesaman (Lower Dauphin) & Chase Smith (Central)
Geesaman has the physical tools be be an elite outfielder, as he has athletic actions and is an above average runner (6.77 60-yard dash) with plenty of arm strength (90-mph). He has shown an ability to go get the ball in any direction, including while representing Team PA at the 2015 PBR Future Games. Offensively, the 5-foot-11, 170-pound left-handed hitter has flashed the ability to steal bases and barrel the baseball to all fields (with an exit velocity of 89-mph).
Smith is a solid runner (6.92 60-yard dash) who has consistently gotten good reads and tracked flyballs very well at multiple events over the past year, while his arm strength continues to improve (up to 80-mph at the 2015 Top Prospect Games in June). While the 5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed hitter's swing path isn't conventional, he has shown gap power (87-mph exit velocity) and the ball jumps off his bat when he gets to extension.
Best Athlete: Bucko & Jordan Fiedor (Hempfield Area)
Prior to undergoing Tommy John surgery in July, Fiedor demonstrated one of the top tool sets in the class. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound right-handed hitter has run a 6.84 60-yard dash, while also posting 94-mph exit velocity and 90-mph arm strength from the outfield. While the jury is obviously still out on how the latter will recover this spring, his footspeed and power potential shouldn't be affected at all by his injury. A tough kid, he absorbed eight hit-by-pitches in 53 plate appearances as a sophomore.
